Gerkin Windows & Doors, located in South Sioux City, NE, is a manufacturer of custom high-performance vinyl and aluminum windows and storm doors. We are currently looking to fill an on-site IT professional position featuring the challenge, call to adventure, job satisfaction, and quality of life offered by Gerkin employment.

The person approved for this position must be delighted operating as a member of a small but high performing IT team with a wide-ranging scope of responsibilities and roles . Must be ruggedly self-motivated, highly resourceful, and able to find great satisfaction working in both clean and semi-dirty environments. This position will involve managing multiple IT systems/tasks/issues/projects simultaneously. The person in this position must remain professional through stressful situations. This position requires certain physical requirements. The job involves working primarily from a desk, but also outdoors throughout all four seasons, on roofs, under desks, under/over plant machines, on ladders and on lifts while wearing safety harnesses. It will involve walking from very little to a few miles per day between different areas and buildings of the Gerkin SSC properties. Will involve lifting heavy equipment (60-70 lbs.). This person will frequently get hands and clothes dusty/dirty/greasy and be exposed to the potential of snagging/tearing clothing. In spite of these challenging circumstances, you must adhere to Gerkin's dress code standards and maintain professional dress and appearance.

Must be motivated to perform the most basic IT tasks as well as intensely demanding tasks and projects. Must have the aptitude to meet and overcome new challenges as they arise.

Working hours are primarily the required M-F 8:00am-5:00pm. You will be expected to follow these hours diligently. Occasional voluntary early/after-hours can be used as needed to perform maintenance or wrap up tasks. Some weekend work is required occasionally for some projects and tasks, though infrequently and is typically scheduled ahead of time.

Areas of Service Include:

• All areas of IT supporting Gerkin's operations in its offices, plants, and day and night shifts.
• Full range of IBM server operations.
• Deploying and maintaining IBM WebSphere hosted websites. (Application programming, networking, system administration, PC and printer repair, Database analysis, business process analysis, help desk support, information security, etc.)
• Managing and improving Gerkin's Datacenter.
• Managing and improving Gerkin's MDF, and multiple IDFs.
• Maintaining/improving Gerkin's enterprise resource planning system, and other information systems, including deploying new ERP releases.
• Maintaining and modifying existing programs.
• Designing and implementing new programs.
• Programming languages include: SQL, JavaScript, IBM RPGLE & CLLE, VBA, Python, etc.
• Backups and DR.
• Network design, deployment, monitoring, and troubleshooting.
• Wireless networking, including an understanding of wireless communication principles, design architecture, performance tuning, troubleshooting, etc.
• Installing and managing firewalls, switches, APs, etc.
• Involvement in structured cabling projects, including testing and troubleshooting, running and terminating network cables, working with patch panels and faceplates, etc.
• Software and hardware repairs to servers, SANs, Backup appliances, UPS, Amplifiers, Printers, PCs, Tablets, Smartphones, various handheld devices and IT assets.
• Hardware repairs utilizing a range of applicable repair tools.
• Familiarity with various operating systems: IBM OS400, Windows, Linux, Android, IOS/iPadOS, etc.
• Security: Understanding of security principles, attack methodologies, and vulnerability assessment techniques. Educating Gerkin users on security principles.
• Working with VMware and Gerkin's virtualization environment.
• Deploying and working with camera and door access systems.
• Working with forms generation technology to design forms for automatic printing, emailing, and doc file creation.
• Working with Windows AD server and the Gerkin domain.
• MS Office suite familiarity. Knowledge of VBA scripting a plus.
• Email management and support.
• Maintaining an enterprise SIP phone system, including VM servers, Wi-Fi phones and Android/iPhone client phone apps.
• Onboarding and assisting users as their helpdesk support.
• Researching and deploying new software/hardware solutions.
• Working with various IT vendors to create tickets, track and resolve issues.
• Gathering new business intelligence and creating written and visual documentation (pictures, flowcharts, diagrams, screen recordings, etc.), and maintaining it.
• Investigating a wide variety of complex technical issues with an attention to detail, using critical thinking, curiosity, and logic to unravel them, identify solutions, explain the situation to users and management using simple every day terms, and finally to bring the issues to a resolution.
• Integrating plant machinery with Gerkin's IT systems.
• Assisting Gerkin leadership in meeting and exceeding their business objectives through the application of technology.
• Must be 100% on board with taking ownership of Gerkin's technology rather than leaving that knowledge outsourced to outside vendors.
