Who we are: The German International School Washington D.C. (GISW) is a leading international school in the Washington DC metro area. For over 60 years, GISW has been teaching children from preschool through twelfth grade. Aside from being the first MINT-EC school in the USA, GISW offers a U.S. High School Diploma as well as a German International Abitur (DIA) to its students.
OPENING BEGINS: Immediately or (2025/26 school year)
GENERAL INFORMATION: This is a part-time position in the afternoon program from Monday to Friday from 1:15 pm to 5:15 pm
DESCRIPTION:
- Supervision of a group of children aged 2-4 years during nap time and playtime on the playground
- Planning age-appropriate activities
- Introducing children to the German language and improving their language skills
- Incorporating basic principles of the kindergarten and implementing the mission statement
- Participation in professional training and staff meetings
REQUIREMENTS:
- Ability to communicate successfully with colleagues, children and parents (in German or English), if required also by e-mail
- Fulfills all the requirements to be a preschool teacher under the rules of the Office of Child Care (OCC) and be evaluated as a teacher by the OCC
- Holds an associate’s degree in early childhood education or holds a Erzieher/in certification or a related field
- Minimum of one-year full time teaching experience in a licensed preschool
- All teaching is conducted in German. Therefore, excellent German language skills, both written and spoken, are required, and good English language skills are also expected
- Demonstrates flexibility and the ability to work independently
- Team-oriented work style with strong communication skills to collaborate effectively with colleagues, parents, and children
- Openness to new learning and development opportunities
- Authorized to work in the U.S. for any employer
DESCRIPTION:
- Supervises children ages 2-4, and plans age-appropriate activities

- Becomes familiar with the tenets of the Preschool program and adheres to the core mission
- Works with the parents during the programs, as appropriate, and responds to parent inquiries
- Participates in teacher training and staff meetings
- Basic computer skills
