The Cold End Manager is responsible for supporting daily and strategic management of all hourly personnel with direct management responsibility of cold-end personnel including cold-end mechanization group as well as front line leadership (shift supervisor cold end & quality). Primary responsibility is the staffing and resource management of the operation to ensure plant targets relative to efficiency, safety and quality. This position is on-site at our Chicago Heights, IL location.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Personnel Management
- Responsible for the oversight of all cold-end operations, which includes the cold-end mechanization group, selectors, packers and lehr attendants.
- Maintain hourly resource pool for all operations of the site in accordance to plant targets.
- Ensure compliance to routine disciplines and procedures for all cold-end operation employees, incl. front line management (shift supervisors) to ensure safe, clean and productive operations.
- Support Human Resources and other plant organizations on developing accurate job postings for the hourly plant personnel.
- Responsible to manage the procedures and their compliance of the sites GMP, GDP and 5S program including leading team meetings and related continuous improvement activities (KVP).
- Provide the leadership that drives GMS as a core value into the operation
- Responsible for administering plant-wide training programs as directed by the Plant Management. Identifies training needs and develops action plans to ensure training is completed and appraised.
- Responsible for overseeing plant disciplinary actions in accordance with current union contract rules and standards.
- Insure the application of the proper PPE and manage operational safety conducting necessary reviews of all organizations and following up on identified safety actions related to accidents and / or management observation including full accident investigation.
Equipment Management
- Improve processes and standards to meet organizational goals developing and managing applicable programs, especially Job Preparation and Job Change Procedures.
- Track Downtime, implement actions and establish procedures to ensure Preventive Maintenance which covers the entire CE-Equipment (Inspection Technologies, Transport & Conveying Systems and Packaging Machines)
- Sets housekeeping, cleaning and hygiene standards and ensures they are met.
- Support investment strategy for the cold-end operations providing technical support and documented justification.
Quality Orientated Procedures
- Ensure compliance to the inspection process as required by “Article Cards & Quality Test Plans”
- Support and enforce the compliances of all quality procedures incl. deviation remedy procedures and implementation and follow up on CAPA’s
- Document and track information as required to supply input for further statistical analysis and reports
- Ensure proper PDS sampling as required per procedure and instructed by the quality department
- Support and enforce rework of held ware during the shifts to meet KPI’s as defined by the plant management
- Oversee quality operations of cold-end including light box inspection and module inspection as directed by the quality organization
- Present weekly, monthly and quarterly reports as requested by the Plant Management.
- Responsible for subordinate performance reviews and recommendations for improvement / development.
- Interacts with key union officials regarding facility plans, changes, status updates, shutdowns, staffing, training and other items that may impact union / management relations.
- All other support assignments of the Plant Management.
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE:
Bachelor’s degree in Business, Engineering or related field preferred.
3 years experience as an Operations Manager in a manufacturing company with production lines and continuous operations.
5 years prior experience with multiple department responsibilities within an industrial manufacturing environment, preferably glass and a 24/7 operation.
Experience working in a Union environment.
Demonstrated leadership and interpersonal skills.
Effective written and oral communication skills along with presentation skills.
