What are the responsibilities and job description for the Welder Fabricator - Entry Level position at GES?
OVERVIEW:
This entry level position of Welder/Fabricator is responsible for fabricating and assembling parts and/or steel to manufacture particular units used to support aggregate equipment (i.e. Control Vans, Conveyors, Control Towers, etc.). This person must have a willingness to learn and a basic knowledge and understanding of welding.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Fabrication Duties:
- Builds, fabricates, and/or repairs equipment and/or miscellaneous articles from verbal instructions, blueprints, and/or working drawings.
- Cuts, fabricates and otherwise modifies van trailers and sea containers per plan.
- Prepares and paints small piece parts as needed.
- Lays out, positions, and secures parts and assemblies according to specifications.
- Develops templates and other work aids to hold and align parts.
- Welding Duties:
- Lays out, cuts, preheats, cleans, and otherwise prepares materials to be welded.
- Welds, grinds, and/or fabricates various materials.
- Tack-welds or welds components and assemblies, using electric, gas, arc, or other welding equipment.
- Welds components in flat, vertical, or overhead positions.
- Other Duties:
- Accurately reports all parts and material used on a job daily.
- Regularly attends educational and training programs covering company policies, department objectives, skill sets, and personal growth.
- Maintains a clean and safe working environment.
- Maintains and cares for shop tools, equipment, and vehicles.
- Completes all paperwork required for jobs.
- Maintains close, positive working relationships with co-workers, customers, vendors, etc.
JOB REQUIREMENTS:

- Must have proven MIG welding skills.
- Must have the ability to work within a team environment.
- Must be a dependable self-starter.
- Must have organizational skills with ability to effectively manage multiple projects.
- Attention and care required to prevent injury to others when performing work.
- Requires a valid driver’s license and the ability to maintain an insurable driving record.
- Must be able to interpret, read and understand blueprint dimensions and nomenclature.
- Must have basic math skills. (addition, subtraction, division, multiplication of whole #’s & fractions)
- Press break and shear operation experience is a plus.
- Welder certification is a plus.

NATURE AND SCOPE OF JOB:
- Occasionally lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 100 pounds and/or frequently lifting, carrying, pushing, or pulling 50 pounds and/or continuous lifting, carrying, pushing or pulling 20 pounds.
- Occasional to frequent walking or standing.
- Frequent and continual movement as follows, often several of movements simultaneously (i.e., handle while crouching, carry while kneeling):
- Kneel (bend legs at knee, come to rest on knees)

- Turn/twist (move a body part in circular motion)
- Bend (bend downward and forward by bending the spine at waist)
- Reach (extend hands and arms in any direction)
- Handle (seize, hold turn with hands)
- Repetitive motion of wrists, hands, and fingers.
- Hearing and speaking to exchange information.
- Dexterity of hands and fingers to operate equipment.
- Consistently exposed to weather conditions, fumes, and loud noise.
