The QUALITY SPECIALIST will be responsible for implementing, improving, and maintaining the Food Safety and Quality Management Systems in alignment with the company’s policies and relevant certifications. This includes ensuring compliance with regulatory and customer expectations related to food safety and quality. The Technician will monitor the quality of raw materials and finished products to ensure that quality standards are consistently met, contributing to customer satisfaction and operational excellence. You will also be a part of the vital team implementing policies necessary to achieve FSSC 22000 certification by 2026.
- Perform routine quality checks on finished products and packaging, ensuring compliance with internal and customer specifications.
- Maintain proper records and ensure production staff properly records any anomalies.
- Review Certificates of Analysis (COAs) and perform quality checks on raw materials to verify supplier specification adherence, reporting any discrepancies to management.
- Implement and maintain food safety and quality assurance policies in accordance with Group Lacroix policies, regulatory requirements, customer expectations, and FSSC 22000 standards.
- Monitor micro and environmental analysis to maintain appropriate food contact conditions in the production environment.
- Collect and analyze data for Statistical Process Control (SPC), supporting operations to maintain high quality and food safety standards, and recommend improvements as needed.
- Troubleshoot quality issues, conducting root cause analysis and ensuring proper handling of non-conforming products.
- Investigate, trend, and resolve customer complaints, ensuring proper communication of resolutions.
- Coach and train new and existing employees on food safety and quality standards.
- Ensure compliance with Prerequisite Programs, HACCP, FSSC, and other food safety regulations.
- Lead the Food Safety Team and participate in the annual HACCP review process.
- Conduct plant inspections, assist with periodic internal audits, and monitor adherence to Good Manufacturing Practices (GMPs), including hygiene and attire standards.
- Prepare for and assist in third-party or customer audits.
- Maintain a strong presence on the production floor, spending the majority of time working directly with operators, technicians, and quality control team members to ensure standards are met.
- High school diploma or equivalent required.
- 1-3 years of experience in a food manufacturing environment.
- A strong background in food safety is essential for this role.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office Suite and the ability to learn and navigate specific software required for job functions.
- Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and interact positively with others.
- Knowledge of Food Safety, Quality Assurance, GMPs, HACCP, and food safety standards is a plus.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to prepare clear reports.
- Leadership skills and the ability to set a strong example for others.
- Willingness to work overtime as needed.
- Strong troubleshooting, data analysis, and investigative skills.
- Ability to travel independently as required, representing the company professionally.
- Proven ability to develop and implement food quality standards in accordance with FSSC 22000 guidelines.
- Strong decision-making skills to identify and prioritize critical quality issues, addressing the most urgent matters first and handling lower-priority concerns as needed.
Preferred Skills:
- A Bachelor’s Degree in Food Quality and Safety Management, Industrial Engineering, Chemical Science, or a related field is an asset.
- Experience in Quality Control and manufacturing operations.
- Experience implementing SQF, FSSC 2200 or ISO guidelines.
- Ability to lift up to 30 lbs occasionally.
- Frequent use of hands to grip, pinch, handle, reach, or feel.
- Manual dexterity and the ability to sit, walk, or stand for up to 8 hours per day.
