This position primarily emphasizes introductory chemistry courses, and we are particularly interested in applicants committed to nurturing student success in foundational chemistry.
Key Responsibilities
- Oversee the general chemistry laboratory sequence, which includes the planning and procurement of chemicals and materials for each semester’s labs.
- Prepare laboratory sessions and ensure effective clean-up and waste disposal practices, while supervising laboratory teaching assistants.
- Deliver undergraduate courses in general chemistry laboratory, introductory chemistry, computational chemistry, and potentially other foundational subjects.
- Engage in departmental initiatives aimed at the recruitment and retention of undergraduate chemistry majors.
- Actively participate in the campus-wide chemical safety committee and coordinate annual chemical waste disposal efforts.
- Provide academic advising and mentorship to students, facilitating their personal and professional development.
- Proficiency in teaching both lecture and laboratory segments of general chemistry courses.
- Capability to maintain a safe and organized laboratory environment, ensuring proper waste management and chemical inventory processes.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Demonstrated success in outreach, recruitment, retention, and mentoring of undergraduate chemistry majors.
- A Master of Science in Chemistry or a closely related discipline, to be attained by August 16, 2025.
- Experience in planning, organizing, and executing laboratory courses in general chemistry.
- Previous teaching experience at the university level in any chemistry-related area is preferred.
