Job Overview

We are looking for a dedicated and enthusiastic Creative Writing Instructor to lead engaging and interactive courses in a remote setting. This role emphasizes our commitment to nurturing student creativity and integrating diverse voices, particularly those from Native authors, to help students uncover their unique storytelling abilities and enhance their imaginative writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

• Teach a variety of Creative Writing courses, emphasizing creative non-fiction.
• Create and update syllabi that reflect the rich cultural narratives of the Navajo Nation and highlight the significance of storytelling.
• Assess student performance through assignments, workshops, and participation, offering constructive feedback to encourage their development as writers.
• Provide individualized support to students as they navigate their writing projects and hone their skills.
• Facilitate interactive workshops that encourage peer critique, collaboration, and the exchange of creative ideas.
• Partner with local organizations and community members to organize literary events and workshops that showcase student work and foster community engagement.
• Attend faculty meetings and professional development sessions to enhance teaching effectiveness and keep abreast of best practices in creative writing instruction.
• Engage in scholarly or creative research and explore avenues for publication.
• Maintain thorough records of student attendance, grades, and academic progress, ensuring adherence to institutional guidelines.
• Advocate for the inclusion of varied cultural perspectives within the writing curriculum.
  
  

Qualifications

• MFA with a focus on nonfiction (required).
• Experience teaching creative writing and composition at the college level is preferred.

• Strong understanding of composition theories and instructional methodologies, with knowledge of current trends in writing education.
• Competence in various assessment methods to evaluate student writing, including qualitative and quantitative assessments.
• Familiarity with diverse writing genres, styles, and formats, encompassing academic, creative, and professional writing.
• Proficiency in digital tools that enhance writing instruction, such as Canvas LMS and writing software like Microsoft Word.
• Capability to work collaboratively with colleagues across disciplines and contribute to a cooperative academic atmosphere.
