Key Responsibilities
- Deliver sign language interpretation services during virtual lessons, meetings, and other educational activities to facilitate effective communication for students.
- Partner with classroom teachers and educational staff to cultivate an inclusive learning atmosphere that caters to the unique needs of students.
- Modify instructional materials and teaching strategies to suit diverse learning styles and abilities.
- Conduct regular assessments of student progress and provide constructive feedback to students, parents, and relevant stakeholders.
- Maintain accurate records of student attendance, academic progress, and communication-related tasks.
- Proficiency in American Sign Language (ASL) and a solid understanding of deaf culture and communication methods.
- Strong teaching and interpersonal skills, with the ability to establish rapport with students, parents, and colleagues.
- Excellent organizational abilities and attention to detail.
- Comfort with technology to support remote instruction and communication.
- A Bachelor's degree in Education, Special Education, Sign Language Interpretation, or a related field.
- Certification as a Sign Language Interpreter or an equivalent credential.
- Previous experience working with students who are deaf or hard of hearing in an educational setting is highly preferred.
- Active licensure in the state of Virginia.
- A minimum score of 3.5 on the Educational Interpreter Performance Assessment (EIPA) with a passed written examination.
