Job Overview

We are seeking a dedicated and experienced Financial Controller to join our esteemed team at a distinguished boutique hotel located in the heart of Baltimore's historic Mount Vernon neighborhood. In this pivotal role, you will manage all daily accounting functions, ensuring robust financial performance while upholding the utmost standards of accuracy and integrity. Your involvement will span budgeting, payroll, financial analysis, reporting, forecasting, audits, and cash management, all contributing to the financial well-being of our organization.

Key Responsibilities

  • Oversee financial and accounting management for the hotel and its restaurant.
  • Act as the representative of the finance department in daily meetings, providing essential financial insights.
  • Ensure adherence to tax regulations and assist with the preparation of reports for tax authorities.
  • Collaborate with the management team to achieve strategic financial objectives and goals.
  • Prepare and assess annual budgets, monthly profit and loss statements, daily performance reports, and balance ledgers.
  • Review all financial documents for accuracy, ensuring compliance with relevant regulations.
  • Timely submission of management reports, offering actionable insights for informed decision-making.
  • Develop and uphold accounting policies and procedures to safeguard assets and ensure operational efficiency.
  • Work in conjunction with all departments, providing support to enhance revenue and control expenses.
  • Supervise internal and external audits, ensuring compliance with regulatory standards.
  • Cultivate positive and collaborative relationships with all team members to foster a supportive work environment.
  • Perform additional duties as assigned by management.

Required Skills

  • Minimum of five years of hotel accounting experience.
  • Strong proficiency in Excel and various financial software.
  • Familiarity with accounting systems such as ADP, Sun, SAP, Sage, Freshbooks, etc.
  • Experience with hotel management software or property management systems, including OPERA and Protel.
  • Exceptional communication and negotiation abilities.
  • Highly organized, personable, and adept at engaging effectively with both guests and staff.
  • Strong financial acumen and analytical skills, with a focus on data-driven decision-making.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, or a related field is preferred.
