Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop the accounting team, cultivating a collaborative work environment.
- Oversee the annual financial cycle, which includes budget preparation, audits, and monthly reporting.
- Ensure timely and accurate reporting to external stakeholders, maintaining strong relationships with funders.
- Participate in managerial meetings and training to enhance leadership capabilities.
- Develop and refine accounting systems, policies, and procedures, with a focus on efficiency and compliance.
- Review and assess contracts related to revenue and expenses for adherence to accounting standards.
- Guide the team on GAAP application and company policies for accurate financial reporting.
- Coordinate monthly financial reports for both internal and external audiences.
- Assist the CFO in managing accounting policies and facilitating annual audits.
- Ensure compliance with all federal, state, and regulatory requirements.
- Extensive knowledge of GAAP and nonprofit accounting principles.
- Proficiency in MS Office Suite and various fund accounting software; familiarity with Blackbaud Financial Edge NXT and Raiser’s Edge NXT is advantageous.
- Proven capability to recognize and implement process improvements.
- Experience in supervising and mentoring accounting personnel.
- Strong communication skills, both written and verbal, with the ability to foster relationships across all levels of the organization.
- Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities effectively.
- Commitment to ethical standards and regulatory compliance.
- Bachelor's degree in Accounting from an accredited institution; CPA certification preferred.
- 7-10 years of progressive experience in accounting and finance, with a solid track record in managing an accounting department.
- Experience in a nonprofit environment with diverse service programs is highly desirable.
