Key Responsibilities
- Strategic Leadership and Collaboration:
- Formulate and implement a comprehensive US patient advocacy strategy, ensuring alignment with both regional and global medical initiatives.
- Contribute as a member of the US Medical Leadership Team, playing a key role in strategic planning and decision-making.
- Collaborate with internal teams, including Medical Affairs, Commercial, Market Access, and Public Affairs, to ensure a cohesive approach to advocacy efforts.
- Establish strategic partnerships between internal and external stakeholders to enhance patient care.
- Integrate patient insights and engagement into regulatory and market access submissions.
- Foster a patient-centered culture by closely collaborating with legal, compliance, and data privacy teams to adhere to regulations and company standards.
- Patient Advocacy Engagement:
- Act as the primary liaison for national, regional, and local patient advocacy organizations, nurturing trust-based relationships.
- Identify and address the unmet needs of patients through tailored programs and initiatives that promote disease awareness, education, and access to treatment.
- Develop initiatives aimed at improving disease awareness and facilitating timely diagnoses, empowering patients to engage proactively with healthcare providers.
- Represent the organization at relevant patient advocacy events to bolster external relationships.
- Alignment with Regional Strategy:
- Work with regional medical and commercial teams to ensure that advocacy activities synchronize with broader regional objectives.
- Lead the development and execution of culturally and regionally appropriate advocacy programs.
- Cross-Functional Partnership:
- Collaborate with Commercial teams to weave patient-centricity into brand and market access strategies.
- Partner with Medical Science Liaisons (MSLs) and field teams to gather insights and promote interactions between patient advocacy organizations and key stakeholders.
- Work alongside the Public Affairs team to align advocacy initiatives with policy and communication strategies.
- Enhance understanding of the patient, caregiver, and associated communities among stakeholders to inform strategic decisions.
- Program Development and Execution:
- Direct the creation of patient education materials, advocacy resources, and engagement plans in partnership with internal and external entities.
- Assess and monitor the effectiveness of patient advocacy initiatives, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
- Compliance and Governance:
- Ensure that all advocacy activities meet regulatory, legal, and ethical standards.
- Serve as a trusted advisor on patient advocacy matters, providing guidance on compliance best practices.
- Advanced degree in life sciences, public health, or a related field is preferred (PhD, PharmD, MD, or MBA is advantageous).
- Flexibility to travel approximately 30% of the time.
- Extensive experience within the biotech and pharmaceutical sectors.
- Over 8 years of experience specifically in patient advocacy, ideally within the biopharmaceutical field.
- Established expertise in rare diseases or conditions pertinent to TTR is strongly preferred; experience in cardiac diseases is also valued.
- Proven track record of leading impactful patient engagement programs at both national and regional levels.
- Exceptional relationship-building abilities, capable of influencing and collaborating across diverse internal and external stakeholders.
- In-depth knowledge of the patient advocacy landscape, particularly related to rare diseases.
- Strategic thinker with the capability to translate complex strategies into executable plans.
- Proven budget management skills and the ability to excel in compliance-driven environments.
- Outstanding communication, presentation, and organizational talents.
- A passionate advocate for patients and caregivers, demonstrating empathy and a steadfast commitment to enhancing the patient experience.
