Position Overview

As a Category Product Manager, you will be responsible for managing the full product life cycle, from initial discovery and innovation through to market launch and ongoing management post-launch. Your primary focus will be on identifying industry trends, formulating strategic product plans, and collaborating with diverse teams to bring groundbreaking products to market. This position is tailored for an individual who excels in dynamic environments and is eager to make a substantial impact within the outdoor industry.

Key Responsibilities

  • Define goals for market research and direct initiatives to gather in-depth consumer and industry insights.
  • Analyze consumer behavior, industry trends, and competitive landscapes to guide strategic product decisions.
  • Identify key target segments based on customer motivations, preferences, and requirements.
  • Conduct competitive analysis to evaluate strengths, weaknesses, and market positioning.
  • Share market intelligence with stakeholders to align product development with industry dynamics.
  • Develop a long-term vision and strategic roadmap for product lines, setting measurable objectives.
  • Monitor market performance indicators to identify new product opportunities.
  • Clearly define and communicate product vision and strategy to internal teams.
  • Oversee new product development projects, balancing features, costs, and timelines to ensure successful launches.
  • Manage risks associated with product development and introduction.
  • Make data-driven GO/NO GO decisions to ensure only viable projects proceed to market.
  • Lead cross-functional teams in executing launch plans and achieving key milestones.
  • Ensure the creation of marketing materials, sales guides, and training resources for a successful launch.
  • Confirm that all commercial processes are in place for a seamless market entry.
  • Gather and analyze consumer feedback, sales performance, and competitive actions post-launch.
  • Track product life cycle stages and recommend necessary adjustments.
  • Conduct regular product reviews with stakeholders to evaluate performance against objectives.
  • Optimize the product portfolio, discontinuing products as necessary.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Product Management, Business Management, or Marketing (preferred).
  • 3-7 years of experience in durable goods within mass and specialty channels.

Candidates with backgrounds in software or IT product management will not be considered, as this role is focused exclusively on durable goods.
