Job Overview

We are a pioneering organization striving to revitalize grasslands and enhance soil carbon sequestration throughout the United States. Our commitment is to empower ranchers in adopting regenerative land management practices that not only bolster soil health and biodiversity but also play a critical role in mitigating climate change by capturing carbon dioxide from the atmosphere. To date, we have successfully collaborated with over 125 producers across 1.2 million acres in 20 states, implementing strategies that restore grasslands, enrich wildlife habitats, and foster healthy soils. By partnering with us, ranchers can unlock additional revenue streams through our carbon credit initiative.

Currently, over 41% of U.S. grasslands are allocated for grazing, encompassing more than 350 million acres. Yet, less than 5% of this area is managed regeneratively, despite its capacity to sequester upwards of 500 million metric tons of carbon dioxide each year. Our mission is to convert vast tracts of degraded grasslands into flourishing ecosystems capable of significant carbon sequestration. Key Responsibilities

• Develop and implement a comprehensive data strategy that aligns with our mission.
• Design, establish, and oversee scalable data architectures, pipelines, and databases to facilitate large-scale soil carbon quantification and Measurement, Reporting, and Verification (MRV).
• Manage the collection, integration, and validation of diverse data from sources such as soil sensors, satellite imagery, and external databases, ensuring accuracy and integrity.
• Lead the creation of data-driven MRV solutions to monitor, verify, and report land management practices that enhance soil carbon removals, adhering to industry standards.
• Spearhead the development and deployment of advanced analytics, machine learning models, and predictive algorithms to improve carbon measurement and monitoring capabilities.
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams, including environmental scientists, software engineers, and product managers, to embed data solutions within our carbon management platform.
• Generate and sustain dashboards, reports, and visualizations that provide actionable insights for both internal and external stakeholders.
• Maintain awareness of the latest trends and technologies in data science, engineering, and environmental sustainability, identifying opportunities to enhance our data capabilities.
  
  

Required Skills

• Demonstrable proficiency in programming languages such as Python, R, or Java.
• Solid experience in data warehousing, ETL processes, and database management (e.g., SQL, NoSQL).
• Expertise in cloud platforms (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud, Azure) and big data technologies.
• Strong foundation in statistical analysis, machine learning, and predictive modeling.
• Familiarity with GIS, remote sensing, and environmental data is highly advantageous.
• Excellent communication and collaboration abilities, with proficiency in conveying complex data concepts to non-technical audiences.
  
  

Qualifications

• A minimum of 8 years of experience in data science, data engineering, or a related discipline, showcasing a solid track record of leadership, innovation, and tangible results.
• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Data Science, Data Engineering, Computer Science, Environmental Science, or a related field; a PhD is preferred.
• Experience in developing MRV systems for carbon projects is a significant advantage.
• Previous experience in a startup environment is preferred, demonstrating an understanding of fast-paced, high-growth settings.
• Willingness to work from our office in downtown San Antonio.
