This pivotal role involves overseeing projects from their inception through to construction, delivering customized resource solutions for public power utilities. The projects range significantly in scope and budget, from smaller renewable energy endeavors to extensive conventional energy initiatives.
Key Responsibilities
- Project Management: Direct all stages of development for innovative technology and power management projects, which includes identifying needs and opportunities, preparing proposals and term sheets, forming and leading project teams, hiring and managing consultants, and creating project plans, budgets, and pro formas.
- Leadership: Guide both administrative and technical support teams to ensure the successful execution of projects. Manage the procurement of key equipment and construction services, facilitate project financing, and liaise with Operations and Maintenance (O&M) teams for cost estimates and project handovers.
- Negotiation & Agreements: Negotiate term sheets, Power Purchase Agreements (PPAs), and other development contracts, working closely with business sector managers.
- Industry Expertise: Remain informed about current power supply technologies by attending industry events, reviewing technical literature, and engaging in relevant committees and forums. Build and maintain strong professional relationships within the energy sector.
- Power Supply Knowledge: Comprehensive understanding of various power supply technologies, along with familiarity with federal and state environmental regulations, policies, and permitting processes.
- Management Skills: Exceptional leadership capabilities, including team formation, contractor management, budget preparation, and schedule oversight.
- Communication Skills: Outstanding verbal and written communication abilities, with the skill to present complex information clearly to both technical and non-technical stakeholders. Proficiency in public speaking and media interactions is essential.
- Collaboration & Problem Solving: Aptitude for effectively addressing complex project planning, regulatory, and financial challenges while aligning with organizational goals and policies.
- Adaptability: Capacity to work efficiently with diverse teams and navigate interpersonal dynamics, balancing leadership, diplomacy, and mentorship roles.
- Level 1: Bachelor's degree from an accredited institution with a minimum of 5 years of experience in program or project management; or an Associate's degree with 7 years of experience; or a High School Diploma/GED with 9 years of relevant experience.
- Level 2: Bachelor's degree with 8 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric public utility or similar organization; or an Associate's degree with 10 years of experience; or a High School Diploma/GED with 12 years of relevant experience.
- Level 3: Bachelor's degree with 10 years of progressively responsible experience in an electric public utility or equivalent organization; or an Associate's degree with 12 years of experience; or a High School Diploma/GED with 14 years of experience.
