Key Responsibilities
- Deliver paraprofessional legal services to eligible clients in civil and family law cases, while adhering to the program’s mission and advocacy principles, under attorney supervision.
- Engage in community outreach and legal education initiatives to empower clients and strengthen community ties.
- Conduct client intake, initial screenings, and develop electronic client files.
- Investigate and develop assigned cases, including conducting interviews and gathering relevant information.
- Draft legal documents, including pleadings, letters, and memos, as well as filing required paperwork with courts.
- Maintain organized records of cases and projects, ensuring compliance with all relevant legal standards.
- Continuously enhance your skills and knowledge in areas pertinent to our client base, while remaining updated on legal developments.
- Participate in mandatory training sessions and staff meetings.
- Provide accurate reporting on advocacy activities and caseload statistics.
- Participate in occasional travel for administrative purposes related to your responsibilities.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Exceptional verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and general computer skills.
- Ability to work independently and exercise sound judgment, all while maintaining client confidentiality.
- Capacity to build professional relationships with diverse individuals.
- Preferred: Associate's Degree and paralegal certification.
- Preferred: Fluency in Spanish (verbal and written).
- Experience in disaster-related cases, landlord-tenant issues, or public benefits law is favorable.
- A proven record of reliable attendance is essential.
