Key Responsibilities
- Assist in delivering paraprofessional legal services under the supervision of licensed attorneys.
- Engage in outreach efforts and community legal education to empower clients and build meaningful relationships.
- Conduct client intake, including initial screenings and case documentation.
- Participate in the investigation and development of disaster-related cases and projects.
- Draft various legal documents including pleadings and memos, and file legal papers with appropriate courts.
- Maintain well-organized records for assigned cases and ensure compliance with professional conduct guidelines.
- Stay informed about legal developments and changes that impact our clients.
- Facilitate referrals to social service organizations to support comprehensive client advocacy.
- Collaborate with attorneys on client representation at hearings, adhering to established advocacy standards.
- Preferred: Associate's Degree and paralegal certification.
- Strong attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication abilities.
- Proficiency with Microsoft Office suite.
- Ability to work independently and demonstrate sound judgment.
- Bilingual fluency in Spanish is a plus.
- Prior experience in landlord-tenant, public benefits, FEMA, or disaster-related legal cases is advantageous.
- A commitment to maintaining client confidentiality and integrity in all duties.
- Willingness to travel occasionally for work-related activities.
- Proven track record of reliable attendance and the ability to prioritize tasks effectively.
