Key Responsibilities
- Draft, negotiate, review, and amend a variety of legal documents, including real estate agreements (purchase and sale agreements, easements, CC&Rs, construction contracts, leases, property management agreements, etc.), vendor contracts, and corporate authority documentation. Experience with joint venture agreements and mortgage financing is advantageous.
- Oversee real estate acquisition processes for storage facility and development deals, including negotiating purchase and sale agreements, supervising due diligence (title, survey, zoning, environmental), developing practical resolutions to issues, and ensuring smooth transitions of property ownership and management.
- Support our development and redevelopment initiatives by conducting due diligence, reviewing and negotiating relevant documents, managing entitlement processes, and addressing land use matters and disputes.
- Negotiate third-party property management agreements and associated documentation, working alongside business teams on closing management deals and resolving post-closing management issues.
- Manage ongoing environmental matters impacting the company and assist in-house clients in resolving disputes with public agencies, customers, and vendors by analyzing facts, identifying resolution options, and negotiating outcomes.
- Oversee potential and actual takings of the company's property interests by public agencies, negotiating to minimize impacts and maximize compensation.
- Efficiently manage the utilization of outside counsel as needed and provide regular updates to senior management regarding team activities and expenditures.
- Juris Doctor (J.D.) from an accredited law school is essential, with strong academic credentials preferred.
- 8-12 years of legal experience as a real estate attorney, with a focus on acquisitions, dispositions, development, third-party management, leasing, and general real estate due diligence.
- A blend of large law firm and in-house experience is strongly favored.
- Current member in good standing with a state Bar.
- Strong business insight paired with a comprehensive understanding of the industry and our business model, along with practical problem-solving capabilities.
- Excellent interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
- Superior organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple tasks and prioritize effectively.
