Job Overview

We are looking for an accomplished and strategic Chief Development Officer to become a vital member of our executive leadership team. In this influential role, you will report directly to the Chief Executive Officer and work in tandem with the Board of Directors, driving the organization’s philanthropic vision. Your expertise in cultivating innovative fundraising strategies will be crucial in bolstering financial support and elevating awareness of our mission. This position will encompass the oversight of major gifts, annual giving, corporate and foundation relations, grants, sponsorships, planned giving, and special events. As a senior leader, you will contribute significantly to our strategic direction while ensuring alignment with our core values: Person-Centered, Relational, Opportunistic, and Stewardship.

Key Responsibilities

  • Collaborate with the executive leadership team, including the CEO and senior leaders, to formulate and implement the organization's strategic vision.
  • Provide direction and support to the development team and other departments, ensuring coherent alignment with organizational goals.
  • Lead the annual planning and budgeting for the development department, establishing specific and measurable objectives.
  • Regularly brief the CEO and Board of Directors on fundraising progress, challenges, and strategies for improvement.
  • Represent the organization at public events, cultivating relationships with external stakeholders, donors, and community leaders.
  • Develop and execute a comprehensive strategy for identifying and engaging individual, corporate, and foundation donors.
  • Manage all aspects of the fundraising program, including major gifts, planned giving, and special events.
  • Create marketing initiatives and materials that effectively promote our mission, programs, and services.
  • Engage in a donor-centered approach that prioritizes relationship-building and showcases our mission and impact.
  • Implement a donor recognition program celebrating contributions to our cause.
  • Establish efficient systems and processes to support all fundraising and development operations.
  • Build and lead a high-performing development team that embodies our mission and values.
  • Provide mentorship to promote professional development and to build capacity within the team.
  • Foster a culture that encourages collaboration, innovation, and continuous learning.

Required Skills

  • Executive-level fundraising experience, preferably within a mid-sized organization.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, Outlook).
  • Experience managing confidential donor data and familiarity with donor database software (e.g., Blackbaud's Raiser's Edge/NXT).
  • Strong communication skills with public speaking and external relations experience.
  • Proven success in grant writing and securing diverse funding sources.
  • Excellent organizational skills, with the ability to manage multiple priorities with keen attention to detail.
  • A valid driver’s license and access to a personal vehicle.
