Key Responsibilities
- Serve as the primary contact for researchers and operational teams regarding waste management protocols.
- Collaborate closely with environmental management and waste programs to ensure adherence to relevant regulations.
- Assist waste generators in identifying and characterizing waste, excess materials, and recyclables.
- Develop comprehensive waste sampling plans based on available process knowledge.
- Prepare and submit waste characterization data packages and documentation for review.
- Facilitate the identification of waste packaging requirements.
- Initiate and implement pollution prevention strategies.
- Participate in organizational assessments and reviews related to waste management practices.
- A solid understanding of environmental compliance and waste management regulations.
- Familiarity with federal and state environmental laws and programs.
- Technical knowledge in areas like transuranic waste management and environmental compliance.
- Proficiency in environmental and waste sampling processes, data validation, and interpretation.
- Experience with environmental management instruments and data management tools.
- Knowledge of Low-Level Radioactive Waste, RCRA, and TSCA regulations.
- A Bachelor's degree in a science or engineering discipline is required.
- A minimum of five years of relevant experience in environmental and/or waste management, preferably within a DOE context. Equivalent combinations of education, training, and experience will be considered.
- Prior experience at the research facility and familiarity with its processes is advantageous.
