Key Responsibilities
- Act as the primary liaison for researchers and operational teams regarding waste identification, characterization, and management.
- Provide guidance to ensure adherence to environmental regulations and internal waste management standards.
- Collaborate in the development of waste sampling plans, leveraging existing process knowledge and ensuring thorough documentation.
- Facilitate the review and submission of waste documentation for certification and acceptance.
- Assist in determining appropriate waste packaging requirements.
- Identify and implement initiatives aimed at pollution prevention, fostering a sustainable environment.
- Contribute to organizational reviews and assessments related to waste management and excess materials.
- Extensive knowledge of environmental compliance and waste management regulations, particularly in chemistry, biochemistry, or closely related fields.
- Comprehensive understanding of federal and state laws concerning environmental protection, particularly regarding solid and liquid waste management.
- Familiarity with relevant Executive Orders and Department of Energy (DOE) Orders, along with applicable governmental regulations.
- Technical expertise in areas such as transuranic waste management and environmental sampling methodologies.
- Proficiency with tools and equipment used in environmental management, including data management systems and waste tracking technologies.
- A minimum of a B.S. degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline from an accredited institution.
- At least five (5) years of pertinent experience in environmental or waste management, ideally within a DOE setting.
- Previous experience within the research facility and familiarity with its operational procedures are highly valued.
