Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:00 AM - 4:00 PM / Pay: $23 Per Hour
Job Description:
Montebello Unified School District is seeking a compassionate and dedicated Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) to join our team and provide essential 1:1 support for students with medical needs throughout the school day. The ideal candidate will work directly with students to ensure their physical well-being, provide medical support, and help facilitate a safe, inclusive, and productive learning environment. This position is perfect for someone passionate about helping students succeed academically while addressing their medical and health-related needs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Provide 1:1 care for students with medical needs, ensuring their safety, comfort, and well-being throughout the school day.
- Assist in the administration of medications, treatments, and medical interventions under the direction of the school nurse or physician.
- Monitor and manage students’ chronic health conditions, including asthma, diabetes, seizures, or other conditions, as per individual healthcare plans.
- Collaborate with teachers and school staff to integrate students with medical needs into classroom activities and ensure that their medical accommodations are being met.
- Assist in the development and maintenance of individualized health care plans (IHCPs) and participate in meetings to update these plans.
- Ensure the school environment remains safe, clean, and accessible for students with medical conditions.
- Support students’ physical mobility, assisting with daily tasks like transferring, repositioning, and supporting physical therapy needs.
- Respond quickly to medical emergencies, providing first aid or emergency care as needed and following school protocols.
- Keep accurate records of student health documentation, tracking medical incidents, medication administration, and any required follow-up care.
- Provide emotional support to students with medical conditions, promoting a caring and supportive atmosphere.
Requirements:
- Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) license in the state of California is required.
- Basic Life Support (BLS) and First Aid certification.
- Previous experience working in a school or healthcare setting with children, especially those with medical needs, is preferred.
- Strong communication skills, including the ability to work collaboratively with students, families, teachers, and school staff.
- Ability to assist with student mobility and physical support needs (lifting, transferring, etc.).
- Ability to maintain confidentiality and adhere to the policies of the school district.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience with students with disabilities or medical conditions (e.g., autism, ADHD, physical disabilities).
- Knowledge of healthcare protocols in a school setting, including administering medications and handling medical emergencies.
- Ability to work independently as well as part of a collaborative team.
Physical Demands:
- Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and assist students with mobility or physical needs.
- Ability to stand, walk, and support students for extended periods.
