What are the responsibilities and job description for the 2025 Summer Academy Apprentice position at Geva Theater?
Geva Theatre is now accepting Apprentice applications for our 2025 Summer Academy program. Apprenticeships are available for two young professionals to work as assistant teachers with our Summer Academy Young Actor Conservatory training program. The focus of this year’s program is Musical Theatre.
Apprenticeships are a full-time, paid position for five weeks between July 7 and August 10, 2025. Most apprentice candidates are recently graduated college students or college juniors or seniors, often (though not always) pursuing a degree in theatre. Housing and transportation are not included. Applicants must be available in person in Rochester, NY from July 7-August 10 to be considered. Pay rate is $16.50 per hour.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Assist teachers in classes (participate, mentor or assist students individually or in small groups), any administrative help that faculty needs
- Oversee student lunch period
- Assist students in their rehearsals
- Act as assistant stage managers for rehearsals and tech
- Oversee independent study periods for students not rehearsing
- Help with set up and clean up every day
- Meetings as needed
Desired traits in a successful candidate:
- Late career college student studying Theatre or Musical Theatre, or a recent college graduate with a Theatre degree
- Experience teaching or working with young people ages 12-18
- Experience with directing or being in a leadership role during a rehearsal process
