GHSP is currently hiring a Controls Engineer to join our Engineering team in Hart.

What You'll Do (Job Functions)

Work is moderately complex and difficult in character and requires Program / Project Management Skills. This is the first career level in the progression, and it is expected that all competent professionals will develop to this level. Functioning as a highly competent controls engineer, work requires independent evaluation, selection, and adaptation of standard company procedures, and translation of technical guidance from higher level personnel into data applicable to the assignment. May be assisted by a Level 1 engineer. Decisions involve moderate to significant risk to the organization, and results may have a long-lasting impact. Primarily involves intermediate through advanced level work, moving toward complete technical competency and mastery of the field.

Oversee all control / automated systems for production Oversee the successful operation of all control / automated systems for production with a focus on safety, quality, volume, and cost (SQVC). These systems include but are not limited to Programmable Logic Controllers (PLC) and all associated communication and Inputs / Outputs (I / O), Human Machine Interfaces (HMI) or touch panels, safety systems and safety circuits, traceability and bar coding systems, bowl feed systems, vision systems, robotics, leak test / pressure decay systems, weight scales, torque and screw blow feed systems, variable frequency drives (VFD), servo control, pneumatic systems, and miscellaneous instrumentation and sensors.

Update and support automation equipment Provide updates as needed for SQVC to the control systems mentioned above. Provide daily support to equipment as needed and communicate lessons learned to technical staff.

Reduce downtime and increase process efficiencies Monitor daily downtime metrics with the team. Prioritize downtime and efficiency losses via pareto analysis. Create game plans to solve each issue and report results. Systematically eliminate issues through a Plan Do Check Adjust (PDCA) process.

Lead troubleshooting, diagnosing and correcting production equipment Systematically troubleshoot equipment issues through effective problem-solving methodologies. Understand how to effectively differentiate between parts vs process. Create irreversible corrective actions and monitor results.

Lead and develop Controls and Process Technician on competency to troubleshot and support automation controls Develop people through effective leadership. This most definitely first requires leading by example and also setting clear expectations. Develop clear roles and responsibilities for technicians. Understand the technician's current skill level and document a game plan for their progress. Hold technicians accountable once they understand their roles and have obtained the necessary training.

Develop programming and equipment standards for automated systems Take lessons learned through the PDCA process described above and assist teams in creating equipment standards for future automated systems.

Have early input on future equipment / processes in concept and development stage All lessons learned need to be incorporated into an advanced quality planning process. Systematically go through these lessons learned through a check sheet.

Maintain a high expectation level of the success of current and future production automation Take lessons learned and understanding of what good processes are to help develop robust controls buy off checklists. These check lists will be communicated before kickoff of all machines build operations for production automated equipment.

What You'll Bring (Requirements)

  • A Bachelor's Degree in Electrical / Electronic Engineering or equivalent preferred.
  • 6-10 years in Automotive manufacturing automation / controls required.
