We are seeking a Fire Watch Supervisor to oversee a team of 20-30 Fire Watch personnel at the Norfolk Naval Shipyard. This position is critical to ensuring fire safety compliance during hot work operations and requires a proactive leader with strong safety enforcement skills.
Job Summary:
The Fire Watch Supervisor will be responsible for leading, training, and monitoring Fire Watch personnel to ensure a safe working environment during hot work activities. This position demands constant vigilance, strong leadership, and strict adherence to safety regulations to prevent fire hazards and respond quickly to emergencies.
Key Responsibilities:
- Supervise and manage a team of Fire Watch personnel, ensuring strict compliance with shipyard fire safety protocols.
- Conduct pre-work inspections to confirm removal of all flammable and combustible materials before hot work begins.
- Ensure that all Fire Watch personnel are properly positioned and remain alert to detect smoke, fire, or unsafe conditions.
- Enforce fire safety regulations and immediately report any safety violations or hazards.
- Ensure fire extinguishing equipment is readily available and operational at all work locations.
- Conduct regular spot checks and inspections to ensure Fire Watch personnel are performing duties correctly.
- Document all safety observations, incident reports, and compliance logs, ensuring records are accurate and up to date.
- Train and mentor Fire Watch personnel on emergency response procedures, safety protocols, and best practices.
- Ensure Fire Watch personnel remain on-site for 30 minutes post-hot work to inspect and clean the work area.
- Participate in safety meetings and training sessions to stay updated on shipyard fire safety regulations.
Shift Details:
- 2nd Shift: 3:30 PM – 2:00 AM
- Monday – Saturday (10-hour shifts)
- Work is performed indoors and outdoors in a shipyard environment, often in confined spaces and elevated areas.
Required Qualifications:
- Active Security Clearance (Required – Candidates without clearance will not be considered).
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
- Previous supervisory experience managing Fire Watch teams (preferred).
- Completion of Fire Watch Training (Required upon hiring).
- Strong leadership and communication skills to manage teams and coordinate with shipyard officials.
- Ability to enforce safety regulations and protocols in a high-risk environment.
- Experience in maritime, shipyard, or industrial environments is preferred.
- Knowledge of hot work procedures, fire prevention practices, and shipyard safety standards is a plus.
- Must be physically fit, capable of standing for extended periods, moving across work sites, and responding quickly in emergencies.
Work Environment:
- Exposure to high temperatures, heavy equipment, confined spaces, and elevated work areas may be required.
- Must be able to work in various weather conditions and stand for extended periods.
