What are the responsibilities and job description for the Courier - Lab Full Time Afternoons position at Gibson Area Hospital?
GENERAL SUMMARY
Under the general direction of the Director of Laboratory, the Courier is responsible for providing courier related services for the hospital and related off-site facilities. These services include but are not limited to transportation and delivery of intra-facility correspondence, laboratory specimens, radiology films and medical supplies.

PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
1. Transport laboratory specimens and related reports to/from the Laboratory Department, physician offices, and other hospitals as needed.
2. Transport radiology films to/from the Radiology Department, physician offices and other hospitals as needed.
3. Transport supplies, pharmaceuticals, clean and sterilized instruments to/from physician offices and other hospitals as needed.
4. Provides other general hospital related courier services, including but not limited to:
Distribution of monthly Board Packets to GAHHS Board Members.
Bank deposits.
Delivery of hospital mail to Gibson City Post Office.
5. Conducts courier route according to established schedules and completes assigned tasks in a timely manner.
6. Keeps hospital vehicles in clean and proper working conditions, including scheduled and unscheduled vehicle maintenance.
7. Assists Storeroom and Receiving Clerks in filling supply requests, inventory re-stocking, delivery of non-stock supplies, etc.
8. Other duties as assigned by the Director of Laboratory.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The following describe the physical abilities required to perform the essential job functions, although exceptions may be made to these requirements based on the principle of reasonable accommodation for disabled applicants/employees:
1. Work occasionally requires the ability to carry items weighing up to 50 pounds.
2. Physical strength to perform the following lifting demands:
Floor to waist 50 pounds
14 to waist 50 pounds
Waist to shoulder 30 pounds
Shoulder to overhead 10 pounds
Carry 50 pounds for 30 feet
Push 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
Pull 40 pounds/force for 30 feet
3. Entering and exiting a vehicle several times a day.
4. Driving hospital vehicle up to 8 hours per day. Occasionally operates equipment to assist in transport of supplies
REPORTING RELATIONSHIP
1. Reports to Director of Laboratory.
2. Has no responsibility for leading or supervising others.
EDUCATION, KNOWLEDGE AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Valid State of Illinois Drivers License.
INFECTION EXPOSURE RISK LEVEL
Category 2 Minimal Risk - This job may expose you occasionally or in emergency situations to blood, body fluids or tissue. It is recommended that you get the Hepatitis B vaccine
