Educator, Organ Recovery Services

Summary

In alignment with Gift of Life Michigan’s core purpose and core values, the Educator, Organ Recovery Services (ORS) is the primary resource for clinical education for the organ recovery services department such as competencies, orientation, specialized skills training, e-learning and module developments, records keeping and regulatory compliance.

Duties & Responsibilities

The following job duties and responsibilities are stated in broad terms and not intended to be inclusive.  Those in bold are essential duties of the position:

• Develop, manage, and facilitate educational programs, materials, and training plans for the ORS department related to defined orientation requirements and ongoing competency validation, including hands-on preservation training and Organ Procurement and Transplant Network (OPTN), United Network for Organ Sharing (UNOS), Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS), and Food and Drug Administration (FDA) policy compliance.
• Create training programs and resources using multiple mediums.
• Maintain accurate training records for ORS staff.
• Conduct needs assessments to address training and skill gaps.
• Collaborate with other department educators, including internal cross functional trainings.
• Analyze success of programs using data and metrics.
• Involvement in quality projects to improve efficiency of department.
• Provide internal-cross functional trainings, as required.
• Mentor staff in collaboration with management.
• Guide and support training provided through the preceptor training program.
• Identify and integrate external training resources, as needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Education and/or Experience

Required

• Bachelor’s degree in a science related field with a strong emphasis on anatomy/physiology and anatomical dissection, or Certified Surgical Technologist with five years of related work experience, or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
• Three years’ teaching, training or precepting experience.
• Certified Transplant Preservationist (CTP) certification or obtained within 18 months.
• Three years’ organ recovery services experience.

Preferred

• Clinical research recovery and data collection experience
• Previous Learning Management System (LMS) experience.
• Prior experience in a healthcare organization, transplant center, or organ/tissue procurement organization.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA)

• Written and verbal fluency in English.
• Ability to exercise initiative, critical thinking, and problem-solving.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office programs, including Outlook and Teams and other technology systems used in business operations.
• Strong organizational skills and ability to manage multiple and competing priorities.
• Demonstrate attention to detail.
• Maintain current knowledge and competence in ORS on-site needs.
• Ability to manage task or project assignments and meet deadlines.  
• Concentrate and function with frequent distractions and interruptions. 
• Strong written and verbal communications skills, including presentation skills. 
• Strong interpersonal skills. 
• Self-directed, exercising appropriate judgement. 
• Specific knowledge of e-learning, simulation training and adult learning.

Salary : $82,000 - $89,000
