Essential Functions
- Ability to perform general physical activities that require considerable use of arms, hands, and fingers to manipulate office equipment, machines, and materials. Some whole-body movement such as lifting, balancing, walking, stooping, carrying objects and handling materials may be required.
- Ability to provide effective assistance in a professional manner to College stakeholders in a variety of business environments requiring critical thinking, organization, and the use of interpersonal and communication skills.
- Ability to provide competent leadership within a critical business and operational segment of the College environment coupled with the ability to effectively manage stressful situations and high priority projects and deadlines.

- Effectively supervise and lead the fiscal management and business operations areas of responsibility.
- Provide strong independent decision making and policy and procedure development and implementation.
Duties and Responsibilities
The Vice President of Business Operations is expected to perform any or all duties listed below in a safe, efficient, and effective manner.
- Direct, plan, and/or implement policies, objectives, or activities of various College business operations to ensure continuing operations, maximize fiscal responsibility, and increase efficiency and productivity to fulfill the vision, mission, and strategic plans of the College.
- Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with College executives, employees, consultants, and other College stakeholders to develop and implement strategic plans that support the continued success of the College.
- Direct or coordinate all aspects of the fiscal operations of the College including, but not limited to, preparation of financial reports, development of fiscal operating procedures, preparation of fiscal year budgets, monitoring budget compliance, and safeguarding all assets.
- Coordinate the development or implementation of budgetary control systems, recordkeeping systems, or other administrative control processes.
- Prepare and/or present reports concerning business operations activities, fiscal activities, budgets, government statutes or rulings, or other items affecting the College.
- Oversee and facilitate the effective productivity of various business operations departments including but not limited to fiscal, information technology, strategic planning and data analysis, human resources, and facilities and property management.
- Analyze business operations to evaluate performance of College departments in meeting objectives or to determine areas of potential fiscal management improvement, program improvement, or policy/procedure improvement.
- Oversee the hiring, professional development, evaluation, and other employee management activities within the business operations areas of responsibilities.
- Perform similar duties not specifically listed as directed.
Qualifications and Education Requirements
- A combination of education, certification, and/or experience directly related to the various business operations areas of responsibility described above.
- Ability to pass a background screening process and/or obtain a Level 1 Fingerprint Clearance Card is necessary.
- Strong fiscal management and/or accounting skills and experience.
- Ability to provide effective leadership within the business operations segment of the organizational environment.
- Above average skill using the MS Office suite of products; ability to work effectively with various cloud-based enterprise management or operations management software – particularly in fiscal management and reporting environments.
- Ability to communicate sometimes complex information in a way that is understandable by others with varying levels of knowledge or familiarity with the subject matter.
- Ability to model the ethical and professional standards and behavior expected of all College employees.
- Ability to work effectively both individually and as a member of a team or work group.
Preferred Skills
- Master’s degree in business administration, accounting, or other closely related business field.
- Industry certifications within the financial or accounting fields; CPA preferred but not required.
- Experience with public education/government agency fiscal operations.
- Administrative-level experience leading or managing a critical segment of an organization with two or more subordinate business departments.
- Well-developed critical thinking skills used in problem-solving and initiative development and completion.
- Ability to fulfill responsibilities in a, at times, stressful environment requiring adaptability and self-motivation.
Work Environment
Duties are performed in a typical office environment within climate-controlled structures. Exposure to moderate noise levels is anticipated. Exposure to moderate to heavy office traffic levels with possible frequent interruptions is anticipated. Substantial computer and/or electronic equipment use is expected. Operation of standard office equipment involves repetitive fine motor skills. Travel is required.
