What are the responsibilities and job description for the Peer Support Specialist-BHS-HHK-Sacaton position at Gila River Health Care?
Position Summary: Assists in creating an environment of hope and inspiring a belief that recovery is real and possible. Co-facilitate groups as directed by Counselor/Therapist. Assist clients in identifying and developing resources, strengths and goals and developing self-advocacy. Provide support to client’s by modeling a holistic approach to recovery. Works to develop community based support (including AA and peer mentors) for clients working to maintain sobriety.
Critical Tasks:
- Supports a Culture of Kindness by modeling empathy and kindness, verbally and nonverbally, to clients and co-workers.
- Strictly adheres to the principle of confidentiality.
- Understands and follows safety standards in all aspects of job performance, reports unsafe conditions or equipment immediately.
- Models personal responsibility, recovery, and self-advocacy by sharing personal recovery story and how recovery goals can be met.
- Assists clients with identifying strengths, goals, effective coping techniques and self-help strategies.
- Assists clients with developing life skills, support systems and community resources. Assists clinical staff with facilitating groups, case management, skills training and non-clinical interventions.
Required Qualificaions:
- High School Diploma or GED required.
- 1 year recovery from drugs and/or alcohol and currently active in a 12-Step program.
- Certification as a Recovery Support Specialist/Peer Support Specialist from an ADHS/DBHS approved education program (GRHC will provide training if needed).
- Related experience in behavioral health either as a recipient of services, a family member or as an advocate of someone receiving mental health services.
- AZ Department of Public Safety Fingerprint Clearance Card.
- Demonstrated ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American cultures and community health services.
