Supervisor Central Sterile-HHK-Sacaton

Position Summary: In concert with the Central Sterile Manager(s), the Central Sterile Supervisor is responsible for overseeing the entire range of reprocessing services for Gila River Health Care (GRHC). The Central Sterile Supervisor will ensure that standards of operation for departments within GRHC are in compliance with the standards set by all regulatory agencies. The incumbent is partially responsible for the ongoing hiring, training and supervising of staff.

Maintains and supports overall directional flow of departmental processes through work planning, work direction, and personnel administration. Independently supervises the sterilization process, the issuance of medical equipment, instrument receipt, issuance, and management, and the courier program. Supervises, trains, schedules and evaluates employees. Incumbent manages all areas through budgetary guidelines set by the GRHC organization. The incumbent interacts with a wide variety of staff, disciplines and customers.

Critical Tasks:

• Knowledge of instrumentation of various specialties within GRHC, including Optometry, Podiatry, Women’s Health, Dental, Primary Care, Wound, Inpatient, and Emergency Department.
• Stays up-to-date with all regulatory guidelines and guidelines/standards from AAMI, AORN, AST, APIC and ANSI.
• Ensures that all medical instruments used throughout GRHC are properly sterilized and provided to medical professionals in accordance with AAMI regulatory standards and guidelines, state and federal regulations, and enterprise standards.
• Reviews, updates, and creates policies and procedures. Ensure that the policies, procedures, and practices comply with the standards established by all regulatory bodies and AAMI, AORN, APIC, ANSI professional organizations.
• Provides guidance, leadership, and supervision for personnel sterilizing equipment, setting up standardized trays and peel packs, and maintaining sterilization related equipment.
• Works with the Central Sterile Manager(s) to plan and adjust work schedules and operations to meet objectives, priorities, deadlines and production goals.
• Establishes and enforces standards of work performance and methods of operation for the Central Sterile Department (CSD) in order to ensure consistency and integrity in departmental activities.
• Ensures that the appropriate aseptic techniques are employed by all staff in preparing and handling equipment being processed.
• Ensures all staff are adhering to CSD and GRHC policies and procedures.
• Inspects inventory and records supply usage in order to draft accurate reports for management.
• Assists the Central Sterile Manager(s) in monitoring the department budget and established service contracts, and assists with the annual Operating and Capital budgets.
• Monitor operating costs through knowledge of operating budget.·
• Assists with staff schedules to provide coverage for assigned shifts and holidays.
• Conducts daily huddles and assist Central Sterile Manager(s) with bi-monthly or monthly staff meetings, ensuring pertinent information is communicated.
• Assists with weekly and month reports.
• Assists in maintaining departmental records.
• Identifies staff training needs and collaborates with Central Sterile Manager(s), to provide guidance and support for staff education and certification.
• Develops professional and ethical relationships with staff, customers and vendors through communication and collaboration.
• Interacts closely with Infection Prevention, Risk Management, Quality, and Safety to identify and mitigate potential patient safety issues.
• Supports all GRHC service lines:
• o Inpatient
• o Wound Care Clinic
• o Podiatry Departments
• o Dental Departments
• o Primary Care Departments
• o Women’s Health Departments
• o Optometry Departments
• o Emergency Department
• Performs other job-related activities as requested.
• Conducts and documents staff training programs.
• Assists in completion of competency assessments for new hires, and annually.
• Assists in completion of detailed performance appraisals in a timely manner.

Required Qualifications:

• High School Diploma or GED required
• Current and Valid Certified Registered Central Sterilization Technician (CRCST) or Certification by CBSPD as a Certified Sterile Processing and Distribution Technician required
• 2-3 years of experience in Central Sterile area, with at least 6 months of progressively responsible lead or supervisory experience.
• Certified Instrument Specialist
• Demonstrates the ability to relate to diverse cultures and specifically the Gila River Community and/or other Native American Cultures
