The purpose of this position is to operate a 22 passenger transit vehicle in a safe, courteous, and on-time manner for the Community and dispatch drivers to and from the designated route to pick up points as part of the route deviated type service that will be offered. This position exists due to the Community’s desire to provide additional modes of transportation (public transportation) for members to get around in the community.
· Operate a 22 passenger transit vehicle.
· Respond to operation issues.
· Must be able to work a split shift during the mornings and evenings. Times will be determined by the supervisor.
· Assists passengers, seniors, and disabled in boarding on and off the bus as necessary.
· Perform pre and post trip vehicle inspections daily for safety of equipment.
· Cleaning and refueling of vehicle on a daily basis.
· Provide excellent customer service at all times.
· Adhere to traffic regulations in operation of a transit vehicle.
· Assists in answering phones and operating radio equipment for dispatch services.
· Log daily information and complete required reporting.
· Perform other related duties as assigned.
· Knowledge of customer service principles.
· Knowledge of the geographical area around the Gila River Indian Community;
· Knowledge of traffic laws and safety requirements involved in the operation of public transportation;
· Knowledge of basic first aid procedures.
· Must have strong customer service skills;
· Skill in efficient map reading.
· Ability to follow safety procedures to make sure incumbent and all passengers are safe.
· Skill to assist disabled individuals in wheelchairs on and off the lift.
· Ability to drive transit vehicles in a safe and efficient manner.
· Ability to use computer and related software applications and radio equipment.
· Ability to communicate effectively and clearly verbally and in writing.
· Ability to understand and follow verbal and written instructions.
· Ability to maintain accurate records and prepare reports.
· Ability to maintain effective working relationships with other employees, Community Officials and the general public.
· Ability to perform all physical requirements of the position; agree to maintain a Drug-free workplace.
High School diploma or GED and one (1) year experience in the operation of a transit/passenger bus.
· Must have a valid Class B Arizona Commercial Driver’s License with a “P” (passenger) endorsement, and maintain throughout employment.
· Required to pass a background check.
· Background checks are required for positions that involve regular contact with or control over Community Children in accordance with The Indian Child Protection and Family Violence Prevention Act, 25 U.S.C. Sections 3201 through 3210 and C.F.R. Part 63 and positions that have regular contact with the Elderly.
· Required to obtain a Tribal Driving permit.
· Required to pass a Federal Transit Administration (FTA) Pre-Employment Drug Test and participate with the U.S. Department of Transportation (USDOT) quarterly random drug and alcohol testing requirement program.
