What are the responsibilities and job description for the Precast Yardman position at Gillespie Precast?
A Precast Yardman is responsible for safely operating machinery within a Precast Concrete yard property ensuring efficient handling of precast concrete structures, handling raw materials, and performing routine maintenance on assigned equipment, while adhering to all safety protocols and quality standards.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
- Operating machinery:
o Safely operate mobile equipment such as forklifts, loaders and cranes.
o Load precast delivery trailers safely and efficiently ensuring loads are accurate.
o Unload and load delivery trucks of raw materials, as necessary.
o Assist with drivers, other yard personnel or plant personnel as needed to facilitate operations.
o Assist in raw materials inventories as required
o Work closely with Quality Control personnel ensuring quality of products are maintained during shipping process by visually inspecting products, reporting any non-conformances, or patching concrete products if needed.
o Assist and interact professionally with customers as well as Department of Transportation personnel
- Preventive Maintenance and upkeep:
o Perform routine maintenance tasks on assigned equipment including lubrication, cleaning, fueling, and reporting necessary repairs.
- Documentation:
o Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, repairs, and inspections, utilizing maintenance management systems, (Maintain X or equivalent).
- Safety Compliance:
o Adhere to all safety protocols and regulations, ensuring a safe working environment for oneself and others.
- Collaboration:
o Work closely with production teams, facility maintenance team or fabrication team to minimize disruption and ensure continuous operation of equipment.
- Inventory Management:
o Assist in counting yard inventories of raw materials and finished goods.
Minimum Qualifications:
- General:
o Maintain a valid driver’s license.
o Ability to work safely and follow all company safety policies.
o Reliable transportation to and from work.
o Ability to successfully complete equipment operating training, as needed.
- Education: Highschool diploma or equivalent
- Experience: Previous experience as an equipment operator or a related field typically 2 – 5 years.
- Communication Skills: Ability to communicate effectively with team members and management regarding maintenance needs and upgrades.
- Certifications:
o Forklift operator certification – desirable
o Crane operator certification - desirable
Physical Requirements:
- Required to stand, walk, stoop, crouch, kneel, bend, climb, or sit for extended periods of time; reach and handle objects, tools, or controls; regularly lift, carry push, pull, or otherwise move objects weighing up to 50 lbs.; and occasionally lift or move objects weighing more than 100 lbs. with assistance.
- Perform manual labor and utilize various hand tools.
Working Environment:
- Work is performed outside in all weather conditions. On occasion, work is performed in potentially adverse weather conditions.
- The noise level is usually moderate; however the individual frequently works near moving mechanical parts.
- Work may be relegated to nights, weekends and holidays depending on production schedules.

Job Type: Full-time
Pay: $18.00 - $22.00 per hour
Expected hours: 40 – 45 per week
