The Development Officer for Major Gifts will be an experienced development professional responsible for the relationship management of prospective and current investors in Gillette Children’s who are capable of making major and campaign gifts. The officer is responsible for managing the entire cycle of prospect development—identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship. This position builds - relationships that result in higher engagement with Gillette, strong and steady annual support, and ultimately inspire major and planned gift support for Gillette’s special initiatives. The position focuses on building a major gift pipeline (donors and prospects capable of making gifts from $K to $K) for Gillette Children’s operational and campaign priorities.

This position must also demonstrate the ability to build and nurture effective working relationships with organizational and medical leaders, staff, and campaign volunteers to effectively coordinate donor cultivation, stewardship and recognition.

This is a hybrid position, with days in the St Paul, MN office and days remote.

Pay is dependent on several factors including relevant work experience and internal equity. Salary is just one component of the compensation package for employees. Primary Job Responsibilities

  • Fundraising : Identifies, cultivates, solicits and stewards gifts from new and current individual donors capable of giving $, or more. The Development Officer – Major Gifts is responsible for the following duties : Monitors and reports progress of donor-related activities and gift solicitations.Collaborates with Major Gifts and broader philanthropy team to develop strategies and proposals in support of goals, strategic priorities, and focused campaigns.Works closely with partner departments as well as other philanthropy team members to build the resources necessary for successful donor cultivations and solicitations.Interacts with various Gillette offices as needed to effectively build collaborative relationships and strengthen the culture of philanthropy.Devises creative strategies for building and strengthening individual philanthropic support.
  • Prospect Management : Utilizes the established Moves Management approach to forward prospect development. Participates in principal / major gift prospect qualification and rating process. Manages his / her own portfolio of - names.Guides assigned prospects through all aspects of the major gift cycle : Initiates contacts with potential major gift and campaign donors.Develops appropriate cultivation strategies for them, including working with internal partners and volunteers.Moves potential major and campaign donors in an appropriate and timely fashion toward solicitation and closure.Makes solicitations when appropriate.Maintains stewardship contacts with donors.Adheres to the highest ethical standards.Demonstrates empathetic disposition, and perseverance.Reflects optimistic and positive attitude, and conveys sensitivity to needs of each donor.
  • Diligently and effectively meets with prospective donors to qualify their interest, link to Gillette, and discern their capacity to make charitable gifts to Gillette.
  • Requires building skills to develop relationships at an appropriate pace and to the point that they result in successful major gifts solicitations for a donor’s best and most complete gift.
  • Secures and completes - meaningful connections with donors annually and documents progress, simultaneously moving assigned prospects along a continuum from qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship—all with the purpose of strengthening Gillette’s mission to children and adults with disabilities.
  • Understands basic financial planning and estate planning practices in order to comfortably and competently communicate with donors their professional advisors, (, accountants, lawyers, bankers, brokers, and donors).
  • Builds and nurtures effective working relationships with organizational leaders, medical leaders, administration, staff and volunteers to effectively coordinate donor cultivation and recognition.
  • Keeps abreast of clinical care, research, education and initiatives across Gillette, and serves as an effective spokesperson and representative for Gillette and its strategic funding priorities.
  • Works collaboratively with department staff to ensure proper documentation, acknowledgment and recognition for donors.
  • Demonstrates a high degree of professionalism and support of the departmental mission, values and best fundraising practices.
  • Demonstrates a natural ability to interact comfortably and compellingly with prospective donors.

Qualifications

Required

  • Bachelor’s degree or equivalent years of experience.
  • years’ demonstrated experience with personal solicitation of individual gifts as part of a fundraising team;
  • Experience making major asks and closing gifts, including deferred gifts
  • Valid driver’s license and ability to drive own vehicle
  • Knowledge, Skills and Abilities

  • Competent problem solving, analytical and organizational skills
  • Proven track record of successfully securing major gift support
  • Ability to project a coherent, sincere, and persuasive case for individuals to learn more about and support Gillette’s mission
  • Ability to bring program or project from inception to completion
  • Must have the personal and professional integrity to inspire trust, and the technical capacities to help prospective donors invest in Gillette’s charitable mission
  • Must adhere to AFP (Association of Fundraising Professionals) Code of Ethical Conduct
  • Must be team-oriented and demonstrate the ability to work successfully with physicians, clinical staff, administration, and a variety of other constituents associated with Gillette
  • Strong analytical and computer application skills— proficiency in MS Office Suite, with data management systems, and a willingness to learn and employ new technologies as required
  • Ability to work independently, setting timelines for work to meet deadlines and goals
