**Job Overview**
We are looking for a skilled and passionate Head Athletic Trainer to join our team and lead a comprehensive sports medicine program at our NCAA institution. The ideal candidate will be responsible for the administration and coordination of athletic training services, focusing on injury prevention, treatment, rehabilitation, and overall athlete wellness. As the Head Athletic Trainer, you will oversee the athletic training staff and collaborate with various departments to ensure the health and safety of our student-athletes.
**Duties**
- Develop, implement, and manage a sports medicine program for all athletic teams at the institution, including injury prevention, evaluations, treatment, and rehabilitation.
- Provide athletic training services during team practices and competitions, both home and away.
- Coordinate physical exams and medical referrals for student-athletes to assess their ability to participate in sports.
- Hire, train, and supervise athletic training staff, including assistant/associate athletic trainers, graduate assistants, and student athletic trainers.
- Work closely with strength and conditioning staff to design personalized fitness, nutrition, and conditioning programs for student-athletes.
- Schedule and coordinate athletic training coverage for team practices, games, and competitions.
- Oversee the fiscal management of the sports medicine program, including the development and control of the program's budget.
- Maintain accurate record-keeping, documentation, and coordination of the institution's medical insurance program for student-athletes.
- Evaluate new techniques, equipment, and best practices to enhance the sports medicine program.
- Potentially teach Health and Physical Education courses, depending on qualifications and program needs.
**Experience**
- A Bachelor’s degree (Master’s degree preferred).
- Board of Certification (BOC) Certification.
- Eligibility for New Mexico state athletic training license.
- Current First Aid, CPR, and AED certifications.
- A minimum of 3 years of professional athletic training experience.
- Experience in a leadership or supervisory role is preferred.
- A valid New Mexico Driver's License or the ability to obtain one within 30 days of employment.
**Skills & Qualifications**
- In-depth knowledge of NCAA regulations and standards for athletic training.
- Strong leadership and management skills, with experience in supervising a team.
- Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with athletes, coaches, and other medical professionals.
- Ability to adapt to changing environments and effectively manage multiple priorities.
- A strong sense of ethics, integrity, and professionalism, consistent with university and state codes of conduct.
**Working Conditions**
- This is a 12-month contract position with varying work hours, including evenings, weekends, and travel with athletic teams.
- Work will take place both indoors and outdoors, subject to extreme weather conditions and temperature changes.
- Physical demands include prolonged standing, walking, and occasional lifting of up to 50 pounds.
- The position requires frequent travel and the ability to work in all weather and road conditions.
