30-days from the start of employment - $1,000
6-months from the start of employment - $2,500
Primary Responsibility: Under general supervision, performs general law enforcement work to enforce the laws--Local, State and Federal--and to safeguard the lives, property and rights of the residents and visitors of Gilpin County. Work involves responding to complaint calls, investigating crimes, mediating civil disputes, preparing reports and patrolling the County in an official vehicle to deter crime or apprehend violators or suspects, enforcing traffic laws, investigating motor vehicle accidents, collecting and submitting evidence related to crimes, and testifying in court.
Supervised by: Sergeant (In absence of Sergeant, use chain of command as established by Gilpin County Sheriff's Office)

Salary Information: Pay range is $30.77- $43.77 per hour. Hiring range is DOQ into the Sheriff's Office step pay program.

Main Job Duties:
- Responds to complaint calls such as: assaults, burglaries, traffic offenses, larceny (theft), domestic disputes, alarms, etc. Investigates felonies, misdemeanors and petty offense crimes.
- Provides assistance to other deputies and other law enforcement agencies within Gilpin County and surrounding counties, as required.
- Interviews witnesses. Gathers and labels evidence, interviews and interrogates suspects and makes arrests.
- Patrols Gilpin County in an official vehicle to enforce and maintain law and order, maintaining high visibility. Inspects troublesome areas, checks security of business establishments within unincorporated Gilpin County and Central City and conducts additional patrols of residences as requested by homeowners.
- Examines crime scenes to determine nature of law violations. Secures and protects crime scenes and assists investigators as requested. Conducts surveillance of specific areas when assigned.
- Mediates and keeps the peace during civil disputes.
- Utilizes computerized data entry equipment, various word processing and database programs to enter, store and/or retrieve information.
- Assists in the Detention Facility, Dispatch and/or courts when needed.
- Serves civil paperwork.
- Work special events within unincorporated Gilpin County and Central City,
- Investigate Motor Vehicle Accidents within the city limits of Central City.
- Conduct Forest Service patrols as assigned.
- Respond to back country rescues.
- Complete VIN inspections for residents.
- Prepares a variety of reports related to criminal and civil cases including documenting locations of incidents and information on victims, suspects and other individuals. Prepares and submits daily activity reports to Sergeants.
- Operates 800 and VHF radios to receive and send information to Communications, deputies and other emergency service agencies.
- Calls for, or responds to, agency assists where needed.
- Enforces state and county traffic laws and provides traffic control where needed.
- Locates and takes persons into custody on arrest warrants. Makes arrests based on probable cause and warrants. Identifies, collects and secures evidence or other property for safekeeping.
- Appears in court as a witness to give testimony.
- Cooperates with law enforcement officers from other governmental agencies in investigations and arrests.
- Safely operates a county vehicle in normal and emergency conditions.
- Maintains cleanliness of assigned workstation, patrol vehicle, uniform and weapons.
- Provides basic medical attention in emergencies, including CPR and First Aid, as required.
- Maintains office proficiency standards in the use of firearms, tasers and other assigned equipment.
Additional Job Duties:
- Performs other appropriate duties as assigned by Patrol Sergeants, Division Chiefs, Undersheriff or Sheriff and any duties needed to stabilize an emergency situation.
- Prepares and executes search and arrest warrants.
- Maintains vehicle impound records as assigned
