Primary Responsibility:
The Teen Program Assistant helps to plan and implement the Youth Teen Program activities youth children 12 years, and is responsible for helping with the care, education, and recreational activities of all participating youth. The assistant is responsible for direct implementation of the curriculum as designed by the Recreation Generalist II. This position ensures that the program is as relevant, helpful, and fun as possible for the young people served. Other duties include general clerical work: parent communication and program promotions.
Main Job Duties:
- Provide youth perspective and leadership for school enrichment, after-school, camps, clubs and outreach programs for youth and young adults.
- Assist in planning effective, educational programming that supports the personal growth and development of life skills among Gilpin youth.
- Co-facilitate afterschool activities and field trips with the Recreation Generalist II - Teen Program Coordinator or the youth leadership team.
- Model leadership, respect, kindness, collaboration, creativity, a strong work ethic, and intentional gathering of diverse perspectives with the youth leadership team.
- Participate in evening, weekend, and occasional overnight stay events.
- Establish and maintain a safe and healthy learning environment; prevent accidents and illness; post appropriate information to ensure the safety and well-being of teens; design appropriate room arrangement to support the care, educational, and recreational goals of the program.
- Communicate with parents, teens, and staff.
- Assure safety and cleanliness of all work areas, including housekeeping duties, restrooms, and storage of materials.
- Connect with individuals in similar roles at other organizations in Colorado to learn about their projects, establish a professional support network, share resources and knowledge, and explore opportunities to collaborate.
- Attend trainings to increase knowledge and skills for this position, including a Positive Youth Development training.
- Develop and practice skills of facilitation, presentation, and speaking to groups of approximately 5-20 people.
- Use social media, such as Facebook, Instagram, Snapchat, or TikTok.
Additional Job Duties: Performs other appropriate functions as assigned by the Recreation Generalist II and/or the Parks & Recreation Director pertaining to the Teen Program.
