What are the responsibilities and job description for the Raw Material Specialist position at Giovanni Rana?
Purpose of Position
The raw material specialists is responsible for managing edible and packaging raw material receipt, analysis and disposition. Key responsibilities include day-to-day decision making, problem solving and issue resolution. This individual will have the ability to recommend changes to our current programs and methods to drive continuous improvement projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Ensure raw materials and incoming packaging meet food safety & quality requirements
- Support US Quality team regarding lot approval and supplier non-conformities management
- Collaborate with the Quality team at the supplier scoring and raw material specification review
- Be responsible for raw materials inspections
- Managing samples routine for internal and external testing
- Feed internal record system with quality and food safety checks
- Measure suppliers inbound right the first time
- Verification of Certificate of Analysis compliance for product compliance against specification
- Statistical analysis of Raw Material quality data
- Tracks supplier performance, notes trends, and make suggestions for improvement
- Provide technical expertise and training in raw materials and packaging materials
- Perform all duties as assigned.
Key Skills and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent required. Bachelor’s degree in food science preferred.
- Experience in Quality, Manufacturing, and R&D function (1-2 years) required
- Experience working in quality food raw materials and related manufacturing environment
- Some experience working in a USDA/FDA and/or GMP manufacturing environment is preferred.
- Knowledge of SQF or BRC preferred
- Bilingual in Spanish a plus
- Multi-task and leadership skills
- Ability to work in a fast-paced environment
- Team player and organized
- Mathematical aptitude with analytical proficiency
- Professional communication skills
