JOB DESCRIPTION Girl Scouts of Colorado JOB TITLE Accounting Manager REGION / LOCATION Statewide / Denver Finance JOB TITLE REPORTS TO Controller PAY $72,000 - $90,000 annually DATE January 10, 2025 FLSA STATUS Exempt OCCUPATIONAL JOB GROUP Officials and Managers GENERAL PURPOSE : The Accounting Manager is responsible for providing support to the Controller as they manage the company’s accounting and financial activities. Duties include completing month end close, monthly reconciliations, review of accounts payable and accounts receivable transactions, and payroll. Manage and direct GSCO’s Senior Accountant, Office / Ops Admin-AP / AR Specialist and Payroll Specialist. ESSENTIAL DUTIES / RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Support most aspects of accounting management (billing, tax forms, reporting etc.)
- Assist in the formulation of internal controls and policies to comply with legislation and established best practices
- Manage journal entries, invoices etc. and reconcile accounts for the monthly or annual closing
- Participate in preparation for the annual audit
- Review the company’s accounting information to identify and resolve inaccuracies or imbalances
- Utilize accounting IT systems to facilitate processes and maintain records
- Supporting the formulation and implementation of control systems within the organization.
- Overseeing accounts payable, accounts receivable, identifying discrepancies, and reconciling accounts.
- Complete payroll processing bi-weekly, along with appropriate uploads and quarterly / year end reporting requirements.
- Ensuring strict compliance with company and regulatory standards.
- Preparing and managing accounts using various software programs. PRIMARY CROSS-FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES :
- Support the efforts and commitments of Girl Scouts of Colorado in pluralism and diversity throughout the organization and within each community served. SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES – assist in supervision of finance staff. EMPLOYEES ARE HELD ACCOUNTABLE FOR ALL DUTIES OF THIS JOB JOB QUALIFICATIONS : KNOWLEDGE, SKILL AND ABILITY
- Solid knowledge of GAAP (Generally Accepted Accounting Principles) and regulations
- Knowledge of accounting and auditing principles including non-profit accounting.
- Knowledge of Abila, Fixed Asset System, RMS / POS point of sale, and Black Baud donor tracking software highly desirable.
- Proven experience as an Accounting Manager or other similar position
- Excellent knowledge of accounting and financial processes (budgeting, financial closure, reporting etc.)
- Understanding of data analysis and forecasting
- Working knowledge of MS Office (especially excel) and accounting software (e.g. SAP)
- Well-organized with ability to prioritize
- Very good communication and interpersonal skills
- Attention to detail and problem-solving ability EDUCATIONAL OR FORMAL TRAINING
- Bachelor's degree in accounting, finance or related field or equivalent experience required, advanced degree preferred.
- CPA desired.
- Coursework in basic auditing procedures and fund accounting highly desired. EXPERIENCE
- Supervisory experience in an accounting department including supervision of both clerical and accountant level positions.
- Experience in working with diverse populations of staff and volunteers, demonstrated personal and professional commitment to pluralism.
- Experience in nonprofit accounting OTHER REQUIREMENTS
- Must pass a criminal background check. MATERIAL AND EQUIPMENT DIRECTLY USED
- Computer and related software, telephone, e-mail, fax machines, copiers and equipment commonly found in an office environment. WORKING ENVIRONMENT / PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES
- Primarily work schedule is Monday to Friday but could including evenings and weekends as needed.
- Ability to communicate effectively with employees, volunteers, customers and vendors.
- May be required to transport Girl Scout materials weighing up to 30 pounds with or without assistance.
- Work is primarily remote with occasional need to meet at one of Denver offices.
