Counselor Job Description
Job Summary:
As a counselor at Girl Scouts of Colorado, you will be responsible for guiding and supporting a group of campers in a safe and inclusive environment. You will work closely with fellow counselors and staff to implement daily activities and programs.
Main Responsibilities:
- Provide health and wellness support to campers
- Support operational, program, cabin leadership, and health staff as needed
- Assist in the planning and implementation of camp programs for overnight, troop day, and family camp sessions
- Care for and maintain assigned areas, including program equipment and facilities
- Supervise and lead campers during overnight sessions, ensuring their safety and well-being
- Facilitate leadership opportunities for Counselors-in-Training
- Manage administrative tasks and participate in regular staff meetings and training
- Interact with digital systems and follow policies and procedures set by industry organizations
Requirements:
- First Aid/CPR certification and Mandated Reporter training
- Preferred experience working with children, in outdoor programs, and/or in leadership roles
- Ability to work non-traditional hours, including evenings, weekends, and extended periods
- Willingness to live on-site in shared housing with fellow staff and campers
Work Environment:
The counselor position involves working in an outdoor setting with various equipment and animals. You may be exposed to injuries from falls, accidental strikes, cuts, and other hazards. A willingness to adapt to changing situations and priorities is essential.
