Position Summary
The Inclusion and Accommodations Specialist supports disability inclusion at GSEM, serving as a primary contact for accommodations and a subject matter expert for youth-centered accessibility. The position reviews accommodation requests, provides recommendations, creates disability inclusion training materials, and coordinates support services.
At Girl Scouts of Eastern Missouri, most of our roles work in a hybrid capacity (in office, remote, and/or in the field). Details will be provided during the interview process.
This is a part-time role anticipated to work up to 20 hours per week and starting pay is $23.62 per hour.
Essential Job Duties
- Coordinate support services and accommodations for members with disabilities.
- Review disability accommodation requests and collaborate with other departments as necessary to respond to requests.
- Serve as disability inclusion and accessibility Subject Matter Expert, developing and maintaining working knowledge of best practices.
- Represent GSEM at external and internal disability inclusion activities and events.
- Coordinate accommodation services, including ASL interpreters and aides, for programs and events.
- Maintain files, contracts, and other materials for members with disabilities.
- Provide recommendations regarding camp and program accessibility-focused infrastructure needs.
- Serve as liaison with other internal departments to ensure an accessible and inclusive environment.
- Serve as a collaborative team member, working to advance the mission of Girl Scouts.
- Perform other duties as required and/or assigned.
Qualifications
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Special Education, Psychology, Social Work, a related field or equivalent experience required.
- Two (2) years of experience in the field of developmental disabilities.
- Valid state driver’s license, proof of insurance, and a driving record that is acceptable to our insurance carrier.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Knowledge of accessibility and accommodations strategies required to ensure that girls with disabilities have a positive and successful Girl Scout experience.
- Knowledge of community resources for children with special needs.
- Ability to provide recommendations regarding camp and program accessibility-focused infrastructure needs.
- Ability to effectively engage and communicate with community members and groups, managers, and families both individually and in group settings.
- Strong critical thinking and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to work well in a team setting.
- Ability to simultaneously balance the need to function within policies/procedures and meet the needs of members.
- Proficient in Microsoft Office programs and other general office equipment.
- Organized thinker with exceptional attention to detail.
- Excellent communication skills, both verbally and in writing.
- Ability to provide a high level of customer service to internal and external customers, and to represent the organization in a professional manner.
- Ability to effectively organize and prioritize work as well as concentrate on multiple tasks simultaneously.
- Ability to work in an environment of confidential data, and keep information confidential and private.
- Ability to work well in a fast-paced, dynamic organization.
Physical Demands
While performing the duties of this job, the employee:
Must be able to remain in a stationary position 75% of the time operating a computer, including navigating websites, software platforms, spreadsheets and both electronic and paper documents.
Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery such as a calculator, copier, and computer printer.
Occasionally positions self to maintain files in file cabinets.
May need to move boxes weighing up to 25 pounds across office for various needs.
The ability to observe details at close range and at a distance.
Is required to drive/ operate an automobile.
Work Environment
Constantly works in an indoor professional office environment. Exposed to moderate noise levels.
