JOB SUMMARY
GSGATL preserves official records of local Girl Scout Councils, current and extinct, of North Georgia which have permanent historical or research value. These records are maintained as a resource for researchers and the general public. The GSGATL Archives intern will develop basic archival and research skills by assisting in the processing and arranging of new records, and preparing finding aids, descriptive inventories, and indexes of collections.
DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
•Survey, arrange, process, and provide preservation and intellectual access to large and small collections.
•Add accruals to existing collections; evaluate and reorganize existing collections to better facilitate access accordingly.
•Review and update existing finding aids and encode new finding aids.
•Assist in the establishment, organization, editing, and application of metadata for new and existing digital objects and digitize collection items when appropriate.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATIONS
•Undergraduate, graduate students, or recent graduates (within one year of graduation)
•Open to Museum Studies, History, Public History or related majors
•Strong oral and written communication skills
•Good organizational skills
•Ability to work independently and as part of a team
PREFERRED SKILLS
•Knowledge of current nationally accepted archival principles and descriptions standards
•Knowledge of basic preservation and conservation standards for archival materials
