Position Summary
The Challenge Course Supervisor is responsible for monitoring programs and activities on all camp challenge courses as set forth by the Activities Manager. The Challenge Course Supervisor facilitates all programs within GSGLA safety guidelines following the GSUSA Safety Activity Checkpoints. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, delivery of programs on the high ropes and low ropes course, creating a positive learning environment in a summer camp setting, providing guidance to Activities Specialists, and assisting with the implementation of activities, enhancing camp program, and always ensuring the safety of campers.
GSGLA Lakota Overnight Camp
The Girl Scouts of Greater Los Angeles Camp Lakota is a state of the art, recently updated residential camp. Located just ninety miles from downtown Los Angeles, this premier camp site will host a full summer camp season. The camp will focus on providing a stand-out girl-led experience for campers of all ages and communities across our 6,272 square mile footprint. The camp offers a variety of specialty activities including a high ropes challenge course, horseback riding, swimming, and archery.
The camp operates with daily exposure to various weather conditions and animals such as bugs, raccoons, and other wilderness animals common to the area.
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
- Plan, direct, and supervise a safe, innovative, and fun adventure program.
- Coordinate (with the help of challenge course specialists) schedules that meet camp goals.
- Evaluate challenge course abilities of campers and staff.
- Deliver progressive and creative adventure program activities.
- Train and supervise challenge course specialists.
- Assist in the planning and implementation of staff training.
- Train challenge course specialists and camp staff in their adventure program responsibilities.
- Schedule, supervise, and evaluate challenge course specialists to provide a safe and high-quality program.
- Manage the physical facilities and equipment in the adventure program area.
- Set up challenge course areas.
- Teach and monitor proper use of equipment.
- Conduct pre-season and end-of-season inventory, and store equipment prioritizing safety.
- Check equipment and report maintenance requests to property team.
- Conduct a daily check of equipment for safety, cleanliness, and good repair.
- Submit orders for equipment and supplies when needed, ensuring timely arrival of materials.
- Survey challenge course area daily and keep the area free of hazards and debris.
- Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver and supervise evening programs, special events, overnights, and other all-camp activities and camp functions.
- Attend all camp staff meetings.
- Assist in the planning of any special events at or near the challenge course area.
- Provide check in/out support and outstanding customer service to families.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications
Required Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Must be 21 years of age or older.
- Current certification in challenge course operation or documented experience and training.
- Experience in high adventure programming in an overnight camp setting.
- Must complete and pass onsite high and low ropes challenge course training.
- Must be able to obtain or become certified in First Aid/CPR prior to first day of work.
- Must submit health history form prior to first day of work.
- Must be committed to work the entire camp season and attend pre-camp trainings.
- Needs to traverse and move several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain.
- Possess endurance including prolonged standing, some bending, stooping, and stretching.
- Needs to sustain activity at 6,000 feet (1830 meters) in elevation.
- Ability to lift to 50 lbs. periodically. If more, the incumbent must request assistance.
- Must be able to live in a rustic camp setting and work flexible hours.

Recommended Education, Training and Experience
- College credits in health, child development, education, psychology, or related field.
- Prior supervision of high adventure programming in an overnight camp setting.
GSGLA Employee Requirements
- Comply with state-mandated reporter training
- Attend GSGLA signature events and/or other activities as assigned
