About the camp
Camp Pennyroyal is a traditional overnight summer camp owned and operated by Girl Scouts of Kentuckiana. Located 15 miles south of Owensboro, KY, this 180-acre camp includes an 8-acre lake, three year-round buildings, platform tents, screened cabins, and primitive camping areas. Pennyroyal is a variety of traditional camp activities including canoeing, kayaking, standup paddle boarding as well as archery and a low/ high ropes course. Our program hosts Girl Scouts entering grades 4 through 12 with up to 70 campers per session. Programs are run by paid camp staff and Girl Scout volunteers.
About the role
The Camp Director will prepare and train staff members in all areas of the camp. The Camp Director oversees the maintenance of general camp operations such as health care procedures, emergency preparedness, purchasing, programing, staffing and communication with families. This requires an organized leader who can work under pressure and multi-task. Other duties include participating in daily aquatic and program activities, supporting cookout nights, participating in daily camp life, and more. The Camp Director should be professional, responsible, attentive, and fun-loving. Compensation
The salary for the Camp Director (Camp Pennyroyal) position is $14,000 for the entire seasonal contract.
Staff training will be held May 27 - June 6, with additional training and set-up time for some staff from May 23 - May 25.
Key Responsibilities
• Coordinating training of staff in all areas of camp through developing and leading sessions, assigning online modules, delegating to other team members, working with outside facilitators and trainers.
• Work with Director team, Camp cook and Health Center manager to make purchases for camp and maintain budget.
• Manage camp communication via the phone, answering emails, and overseeing all family communications.
• Working within our electronic record system, CampDoc, for camper notes, accessing health records, rosters, financial information, and registration.
• Preparing staff and families for opening and closing day operations.
• Manage facilities, equipment, and program through site checks, staff scheduling, communication with Camp Ranger, safety orientations and policy/procedure enforcement.
• Oversee daily scheduling of camper programing and staff off-time.
• Other duties as assigned.
WORKING CONDITIONS/ENVIRONMENT
● Non-traditional and long work hours are expected.
● The Pennyroyal Camp Director has private sleeping quarters that could be near other staff with a shared or private bathroom. With electricity and air conditioning.
● Daily exposure to various weather conditions, plants, and animals.
● Walk/hike several miles daily, at various grades, elevations, and on uneven terrain.
● Daily swimming, boating, and lifeguarding in lake water.
MINIMUM JOB REQUIREMENTS
EDUCATION
● Must be First Aid/CPR Certified
● Bachelor's degree in human services, child-education, or recreation program.
● Proficiency with Microsoft and ability to adapt to Campdoc program.
● Competency with homesickness, bullying, special needs, etc.
● Other certifications and outdoor or boating skills/knowledge are a plus.
EXPERIENCE
● 1 year of working in childcare, youth program, or camp.
● 2 years of supervisory and administrative experience preferred
SPECIFIC SKILLS AND REQUIREMENT
● 25 years of age
● Meet state, federal, and ACA requirements for summer camp employment
● Strong communication, written, and public speaking skills
● Adaptable and flexible within a fast-paced working environment
● Organized and consistent
● Provide exemplary customer service
● Able to pull up to an overview of the entire goal and problem solve accordingly
● Comfort and competency while driving automatic trucks and motorized boats
● Must have valid driver's license with a safe driving record meeting company standards
● Swimming proficiency and comfort in all types of water conditions

● Report incidents of abuse or potential abuse involving campers to the appropriate authorities.
