To comply with DOH requirements for Camp Director qualifications, the incumbent must be 24 years old or older.
Position Summary:
The Girl Scout Experience Specialist is key to delivering impactful year-round programming which offers girls and gender-expansive youth opportunities to grow in leadership, confidence, and more. This position involves a blend of administrative work, creative planning, data management and mentorship. This role’s focus is on delivering programming in the areas of STEM, outdoors, entrepreneurship, leadership, and lifeskills according to Girl Scout curriculum and protocols. During the summer, the person in this position will take a leadership role delivering Summer Camp.
Major Accountabilities:
Work collaboratively with the Director of Girl Scout Experience, the VP for Mission, Strategy & Delivery and the Girl Scout Experience team to:
· Develop and implement quality youth programming consistent with organizational goals and which meets the needs of participants from a diverse population.
· Design and manage innovative year-round, progressive programming and initiatives throughout the Council footprint and for all ages/levels of Girl Scouts that allows for increased skill-building and learning.
· Utilize effective market strategies and business operations to promote programming, ensure the increased participation of Girl Scout members in programming, and attract nonmembers to the organization.
· Ensure that programs are delivered in a manner that is fiscally responsible. Monitor, collect and report on financial and statistical data related to assigned areas. Ensure the prompt handling of all financial obligations.
· Ensure that all programs, events, activities meet quality, consistency, and safety guidelines, including GSUSA, Girl Scouts of Northeastern New York, the American Camp Association and State of New York as applicable.
· Assist with the development and implementation of outcome evaluation to effectively measure the success of program delivery. Analyze and report outcome evaluation results to ensure the achievement of program goals.
· Provide excellent customer service to all members and prospective members, including prompt responses and clear documentation.
· Collaborate with members of other departs to support quality experiences for Girl Scouts (including renewal incentives, membership events, product program rewards, etc.)
· Performs additional leadership duties during summer camp season to be specified before each summer.
· Participate in Council-wide activities and events, department meetings, one-on-one meetings with colleagues and cross-functional staff teams as required.
· Keep abreast of trends and issues affecting girls, the camping industry as well as GSUSA’s changes and requirements.
· Other projects and assignments as needed.
Qualifications:
· Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent experience in a related field with a strong understanding of youth programming and leadership development.
· At least two years of experience in program leadership, with demonstrated success in developing, delivering, and evaluating youth programs, as well as experience in business operations, marketing, and strategic planning to enhance long-term participation and retention.
· Knowledge of New York State camp laws and the American Camp Association Standards, ensuring compliance with safety and quality regulations for all programs and camps.
· Strong leadership skills with the ability to see the bigger picture, balancing operational needs with the goal of fostering sustained, positive Girl Scout experiences for participants.
· Proven ability to design intentional, mission-driven programming that aligns with the Girl Scout Leadership Experience, empowering girls and gender-expansive youth to build confidence, develop skills, and grow as leaders.
· Experience and training in teaching and facilitating content for both adults and children, creating engaging and impactful learning experiences.
· Flexibility to work a varied schedule including regular evenings, weekends and approximately one overnight program monthly to meet the needs of Girl Scouts and their families across the Council’s geographic area.
· Current, valid NYS driver’s license for travel across the Council region.
· Collaborative team player with the ability to work effectively with cross-functional teams to ensure quality, safe, and engaging experiences for all Girl Scouts.
· Strong project management skills with the ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.
· Proficiency with Windows and MS Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint) and the ability to learn and utilize specialized software to manage and report on program outcomes.
· Ability to maintain certification in Emergency First Aid and CPR (training provided by GSNENY) to ensure the safety of all participants.
· Ability to maintain additional certifications including, USA Archery Instructor, CPR/First Aid Instructor, Lifeguard, Lifeguard Supervisor, Waterfront Safety Instructor, High Ropes Course a plus.
