Position Description:
The Membership Operations Specialist is a dynamic and results-driven sales professional, playing a critical role in expanding our Girl Scouts community. This position is focused on enthusiastically recruiting new youth members and adult volunteers, driving membership growth, and ensuring seamless onboarding to the Girl Scout program. The Membership Operations Specialist proactively identifies and engages potential members, delivering compelling pitches about the value of Girl Scouts and closing the deal by securing commitments. You will work with interested new members, adult volunteers or guardians of potential Girl Scouts, who have expressed interest online or from one of our community engagement nights, and connects them to existing troops or forms new troops with new volunteers. This role thrives on building relationships with caregivers, eligible youth, and prospective volunteers—ensuring every interaction leads to increased participation.
This is one of two Membership Outreach Specialist positions in the Council. Each specialist cover duties for half of the Council’s 15 county footprint. While the position supports field recruiters, and primarily consists of office-based work, there is an expectation of outreach, events and field work, the split of which flexes during peak season (September-October and April). Evenings, weekends and travel throughout the territory is occasional and required to fulfill the duties of the position. This position can be based out of our Albany or Queensbury office. Occasional hybrid work options are available, depending upon the season and the workflow.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Analyze and report accurate information on current and potential members to drive membership expansion.
- Proactively conduct outbound sales efforts, including cold calling, warm lead follow up and targeted outreach, to convert prospects into Girl Scout members.
- Capability to build rapport, establishing trust and strong relationships with caregivers, prospective members, and potential volunteers quickly by phone and email.
- Proficiency in utilizing database information to meet the needs of member requests.
- Maintain database accuracy, working with volunteers and coworkers to regularly update records and document interactions.
- Implement and refine a results-driven recruitment process that is consistent, predictable, and designed to maximize membership growth.
- Work closely with the Membership, Member Care, and other teams to respond to customer inquiries and concerns in a prompt and engaged manner.
- Seasonal support of direct recruitment of future Girl Scouts and adults, selling the Girl Scout experience and working directly with potential Girl Scouts.
- Work closely with Director of Membership, Director of Marketing, and other internal teams to identify creative ways to connect and attract potential new members, focusing on solution-based approaches, increasing member conversion rates.
- Attend evening/weekend events when needed. Expectation of 4 events a month during September-November, including potential local daytime travel. As needed support of evening/weekend events during other peek recruitment seasons. Infrequent additional travel and evenings/weekends based on Council staff wide events throughout the year, including but not limited to Cookie Pick Up, All Staff development events, etc. Council vehicles can be available for staff use for Council events.

- Availability to occasionally work outside of traditional Monday-Friday 9-5 hours for the availability of conversations with customers.
- Maintain certification in emergency first aid and CPR, trainings provided by GSNENY.
- Possess and maintain a valid New York State driver's license.
- Must be able to work both in an office setting and independently.
- Bilingual Spanish skills are preferred.

- Ability to lift 10 to 20lbs. on occasion.
- Ability to traverse through an office environment and occasional outdoor/camp environment.
- Communicate in outdoor and sometimes noisy environments.
