Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey is looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging Summer Camp environment! Lake Rickabear Day Camp sits on 332 acres of land including a beautiful 40-acre, spring-fed lake, perfect for swimming, pedal boating, paddle boarding, and row boating.
The Arts and Crafts Specialist will direct and coordinate the development of the Girl Scout program in camp through promotion and supervision of creative arts and crafts activities which will provide opportunities for campers to discover, connect and take action. They will plan and execute quality, age-appropriate programming in their area of expertise, which includes various artistic techniques, developing the art curriculum, and maintaining a clean program area.
Immediate Supervisor: Program Director
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Schedule and develop age-appropriate programs and activities in creative arts & crafts activities
- Maintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJ
- Attend pre-camp training and conduct training to staff on activities
- Create and distribute samples of available arts & crafts programs based on the week’s theme with directions to unit leaders
- Maintain communication with Unit Leaders, Counselors, and Junior Counselors regarding camper behavior and supervision
- Instruct and support a group of up to 20 girls, providing fun, informative, and skill building innovative art lessons
- Plan, coordinate, and supervise special programs for Special Interest Day
- Must be able to stay and sleep over for at least one out of the three overnights
- Must be able to stay at camp until the end of campfire for the overnights not staying overnight for
- Keep a supply of appropriate rainy day activity resources available
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of arts & crafts center
- Conduct safety orientation of equipment and safety procedures
- Provide resources for unit staff to develop unit projects, lessons, and programs
- Maintain files of ideas and directions of art programs
- Write and submit a seasonal report and evaluation of the season's art program activities
- Promote high camper and staff morale
- Document and diligently report any health and welfare concerns to the Camp Health Supervisor
- Perform other duties as assigned
Requirements
- Must be 21 years of age
- Desire and ability to supervise, lead, and positively manage campers and work with other staff in a cooperative, team-oriented camp atmosphere
- Ability to teach skills to campers of all ages and staff in a safe, inclusive, creative, and fun way
- Ability to use sound judgement surrounding safety procedures
- Must be attentive and timely
- Regularly speak, read, write, interpret, and respond to words in the English language
- Must be able to communicate well with other staff and community partners
- Ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds
- First Aid and CPR certified or willingness to obtain prior to camp beginning
Physical Requirements
- Walking, standing, bending, stooping, reaching and ability to lift and move up to 30 pounds.
- Daily exposure to seasonal weather conditions.
- Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
Daily Rate: $118 (new staff) - $123 per day (returning staff). This is based on a 7.5 hour work day, which translates to $15.73 - $16.40 hourly respectively.
