The Girl Scout mission is to build girls of courage, confidence, and character, who make the world a better place. Behind every Girl Scout and volunteer is a team of local staff ready to help them earn that next badge, embark on a camping adventure, or organize an impactful service project. We are Girl Scouts of Northern New Jersey (GSNNJ) serving girls in grades K-12 in Bergen, Morris, Passaic, Sussex and northern Warren counties. We bring the Girl Scout Leadership Experience to 18,000 girls and 10,000 adult members. We are looking for energetic, fun, organized, and caring staff to provide memorable experiences to girls in a safe and engaging environment. The Challenge Course/Zip-Line Facilitator is responsible for enriching the Girl Scouts' experience at camp through the development and delivery of challenge course activities that are appropriate to the participants' ages and abilities while maintaining safe programs as directed by Girl Scouts of the USA, American Camp Association and the New Jersey Department of Health and Youth Camp Services.
Location: Jockey Hollow Camp and/or Lake Rickabear Camp. Ability to work in both camps is preferred, but not required.
Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Effectively communicate and work with a diverse group of staff and campers (background/abilities) to encourage full participation in Girl Scouting
- Develop age-appropriate programs and activities in camp through promotion and supervision of challenge course and zip line activities and games which will promote team building
- Maintain strict safety procedures set forth by GSNNJ
- Maintain communication with Leaders and volunteers regarding camper behavior and supervision
- Instruct and support a group of up to 20 girls, providing team building activities
- Facilitate zip line to all campers entering 4th grade and up
- Maintain cleanliness, organization, and safety of challenge course and zip line areas
- Conduct safety check of equipment and safety procedures – make and/or report needed repairs and keep daily records of such
- Promote high morale
Requirements
Qualifications:
- 18 years of age.
- Certification in Challenge Course & Zipline by The Adventure Guild (training and certification provided by GSNNJ prior to working).
- Ability to use sound judgment regarding safety procedures when using the Zip Line/Challenge Course.
- Knowledge of Girl Scouting, leadership skills, and proven instructional experience.
- Individuals must be in physical condition to perform duties.
- Must be available for either the Fall or Spring Rental Seasons on Saturdays and Sundays
- Must be able to work at both Lake Rickabear & Jockey Hollow.
- Individuals must be able to walk around the wooded campgrounds with ease, use challenge course equipment (helmets and harnesses) and move it from the shed to the challenge course.
- Must be able to work in a rustic camp environment with limited access to electricity, cell phone service and internet.
- The ideal candidate will possess experience which relates to job responsibilities, including successful experience in assisting with developing and delivering sports programs in a prior sports setting, camping, group leadership, and organizational skills.
- The candidate must have experience working with children.

- During Program Hours: Site Manager
- Outside of Program Hours: Camp Director and/or Outdoor Program Manager
