POSITION SUMMARY

The DEI & Community Program Coordinator is responsible for extending Girl Scout membership and quality program services to girls in underserved communities. This position also fosters inclusivity of girls through various pathways of participation including, Faith-Based Troop Partnerships, Rural Outreach, Latinx, Virtual Troops, and Staff-Led Troop programs.

Responsibilities include supervising a team of 12-18 part-time Program Leaders and multiple volunteers; providing for the delivery of the Girl Scout Leadership Experience curriculum and program; recruitment and retention of program participants; networking and collaborating within the community; the creation of effective, empowering program and learning opportunities for girls and adults; other programmatic and support functions as required.

This is an exempt, full-time position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Membership Growth and Retention

· Identifies specific targets for membership growth by analyzing demographics and membership trends in order to expand membership in untapped and under-realized markets, most especially in low-income neighborhoods

· Responsible for the development and implementation of a membership planning process specific to underserved areas

· Ensures the development and delivery of quality programs to support retention and growth of membership

· Facilitates support to ensure that girls from all income levels are able to participate, including placing paid Program Leaders to serve girls in low-income neighborhoods and/or through community collaborations where volunteer leadership cannot be identified

· Ensures Girl Scouting is open to all by delivering the Girl Scout message of diversity and inclusiveness

Program Delivery

· Develops opportunities for programming at low-income, at-risk community sites

· Ensures proper accountability measures are in place for all sites where paid Program Leaders are deployed; ensures the safety and positive program experience of all participants through adherence of mandatory policies and procedures

· Collaborates with the Program Department to ensure programming reflects the interests and needs of the council’s girl population

· Serves as a role model for girls and adults by exhibiting positive attributes such as reliability, respect for others, inclusiveness, and a positive attitude

· Works collaboratively with Program Leaders to organize fun, safe, and interactive girl-led activities that address current issues involving girls’ interests and needs

· Supports and encourages girls in attaining desired goals

· Ensures the development and delivery of traditional and innovative programs for retention and growth of membership

· Fosters diversity, understanding, and respect

· Empowers girls to lead activities, learn by doing, and cooperate with others on current issues that involve their interests and needs

Staff Management and Support

· Accountable for the recruitment, retention, and supervision of Program Leaders

· Facilitates on-going training, support, and professional development opportunities for Program Leaders

· Provides back-up support for Program Leaders as needed

Volunteer Management and Support

· Provides for high quality communication, customer service, and follow-up to meet the needs of volunteers supporting the Low-Income Families and Neighborhoods Program

· Builds and maintains relationships with volunteers and regularly communicates their value to the organization

Content Expertise

· Serves as a council-wide resource on the Girl Scout National Program Portfolio and provides ongoing coaching, support, and facilitation to help staff and volunteers use the curriculum

· Promotes and preserves valued Girl Scout traditions with girls, staff, and volunteers

Training and Curriculum Development

· Ensures delivery of a consistent, high-quality Girl Scout Leadership Experience to girls through staff and volunteers

· Develops quality, outcome-based girl programs and guides the customization of national program materials to fit program needs

· Develops, coordinates, implements, and evaluates informative, interactive curricula, and DEI trainings for Program Leaders, council staff, and volunteers

Community Collaborations & Networking

· Extends Girl Scouting to the community through presentations, networking, and relationship building with key community stakeholders; acts as an ambassador to promote visibility of the Girl Scout organization

· Maintains existing partnerships; expands reach and scope of the outreach program through new collaborations with youth-serving community organizations

· Attends community events and meetings as required

· Partners with community collaborators to organize special events in support of the outreach program

General Support of Departmental and Regional Council Efforts

· Assists in the creation, implementation, and management of a departmental budget

· Ensures successful implementation of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

· Serves as a positive role-model for girls

· Provides general program and volunteer support as required

· Collaborates with all departments within the organization and with members of assigned areas to meet and expand the geographic goals and objectives of the Girl Scout council

· Processes registration and other paperwork according to GSUSA and GSSN’s policies and procedures

· Completes and processes attendance reports and site logs as needed

· Follows program procedures for acquiring supplies for program sites

· Provides administrative support to program manager

· Provides back up assistance or support to sites as needed

QUALIFICATIONS

· Bachelor’s degree preferred plus 1-3 years of professional experience in program delivery or education, or 5-7 years of relevant professional experience

· Bilingual English/Spanish preferred

· Supervisory experience preferred

· A desire and ability to work directly with girls

· Demonstrates ability to recruit, train, retain, and supervise 8-12 part-time staff members and multiple volunteers

· Excellent verbal and written communication skills

· Able to speak effectively before individuals and groups, network, and cultivate community partnerships

· Excellent interpersonal skills required; ability to interact with girls, staff, volunteers, and parents in a positive, professional manner

· Ability to work cooperatively as a team member with staff and volunteers

· Ability to manage a multi-project workload in multiple locations, exercise initiative, and meet deadlines

· Basic experience with Microsoft Office Suite software (Excel, MSWord, PowerPoint, Access), Outlook and Internet.

· Experience with Salesforce or other Customer Relationship Management (CRM) software desirable

· Must be able to work a flexible schedule including evenings and weekends on a continual basis

· Must have a valid driver’s license, reliable transportation, and insurance for necessary travel to meetings and events in council jurisdiction and occasionally beyond

· Required to learn and have full understanding of Girl Scout Leadership Experience

· First Aid/CPR Certification desirable

COMPETENCIES

To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed are representative of the knowledge, skill and/or ability required. Individual should possess great communication skills and be able to work with customers including girls, staff, volunteers, parents, vendors, and community members. Individual must understand Girl Scout programming, training, and the Girl Scout Leadership Experience and have the confidence and skill set to provide trainings to small and large groups. Individual must maintain a high level of knowledge of the organization on a continual basis through staff, team, and departmental meetings or through research, print or online materials, and other avenues available within the organization. Individual should possess the ability to plan, organize, and prioritize work while implementing a variety of Girl Scout programming and learning opportunities.

Authority and Accountability

Accountable to the Director of Membership Development. Employee has the authority to carry out work performance objectives agreed upon with their supervisor. Objectives are outlined annually and reported/reviewed at least quarterly. The primary duty will be the performance of office or non-manual work directly related to the management or general business operations of the employer and includes the exercise of discretion and independent judgment with respect to matters of significance.

Supervisory Responsibility

Responsible for the recruitment, training, retention, and supervision of 8-12 Program Leaders and multiple volunteers.

Required Training

GSUSA/GSSN training modules on the Girl Scout organization, Girl Scout Leadership Experience, and relevant girl leadership development programs and awards.

Language Skills

Ability to read documents, write reports and correspondence, and speak effectively before individuals and groups. Bilingual English/Spanish preferred.

Mathematical Skills

Must be able to understand and perform math skills needed for the position (addition, subtraction, multiplication, division, percentages, ratios, fractions, and proportions to practical solutions) either with or without a calculator. Be able to create and maintain budgets, balance accounts, and analyze demographic data and statistical data and interpret how it relates to membership.

Reasoning Ability

Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form and carries them out. Ability to apply conflict resolutions skills in a variety of situations between staff, volunteers and girl members.

Computer Skills

To perform this job successfully an individual should have knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite software (MSWord, Excel, Access, PowerPoint, etc.), Outlook, Salesforce, and Internet. The individual will be trained on and be responsible for developing proficiency with internal tools and resources.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Current driver’s license required. Employees who use privately owned vehicles for council business are responsible for complying with local, state and federal laws. Employees will be required to carry a current driver’s license, vehicle registration, and personal and public liability insurance which meet state and council requirements. First Aid/CPR and Food Handlers certification desirable.

Work Environment

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The main duties are performed inside an office or building but on occasion may be held outside. This position consistently requires the individual to travel exposing them to traffic and weather conditions. While performing the duties of this job, the employee is occasionally exposed to dirt, dust, heat, cold, rain, snow, ice, humidity, noise, traffic conditions, and uneven surfaces. Customarily this position requires travel within the Reno/Sparks and outlying areas on a consistent basis. On occasion, the employee will be assigned to travel to the organization’s regional areas (Sierra Nevada) including Eastern and Central Nevada, the Eastern California area stretching from the Oregon/California border to the Southern area of Bishop, California, and as far east as Elko/Spring Creek and the Utah border.

Mental Requirements

The employee is required to have the ability to learn and comprehend basic instructions and carry them out. The employee is required to coordinate eyes, hands, and fingers rapidly and accurately in order to type, write, and operate a vehicle. The employee is required to have the ability to understand the meaning of words and respond effectively. The employee is required to have the ability to perform basic arithmetic accurately and quickly as defined in the qualifications.
