Camp Catron Description:
Catron Camp and Retreat Center is one of the Girl Scouts Spirit of Nebraska properties where girls in grades K-12 can participate in outdoor activities, including, but not limited to: hiking, swimming, arts, crafts, archery, challenge course and Girl Scout curriculum (including earning badges). Catron Camp and Retreat Center is the home of Sky Camp, a spacious lodge, a swimming pool and a craft/nature center.
Role Description:
The Assistant Camp Director provides Girl Scout Spirit of Nebraska mission driven leadership and understands that empowering girls is at the heart of our organization. They display personal pride in their work, a positive work ethic and have a proactive, positive and enthusiastic approach to change. They are responsible for implementing and directing camp programs that drive our mission of building girls of courage, confidence and character, who make the world a better place! The Assistant Director role will be May-August 2
Staff Training:
· The Assistant Director will need Basic Outdoor Training if needed, this will be scheduled for a Saturday in May.
· The Assistant Director will be expected to participate in pre-camp meetings in May. These will be scheduled for evenings or weekends
· All Camp Staff Training: May 27-30, 2025 (First Aid and CPR training will be provided for those needing certifications),
Camp Dates:
· June 8-12, Camp Catron Classic (Insect camp)
· June 22-June 26, Camp Catron Creatives AND Sky’s the Limit Resident Camp
· July 13-17, Butterflies, Blooms, and Bees Resident Camp
· July 20-24, Wizarding World Adventure/ CIT
· The camp Director will be present for the above camps. There may be opportunities to work at other camps in the off weeks of Camp Catron. The camp Director should expect to work 1-2 days after the last camp to assist in the closing of camp for the summer.
Pay: $14.00 per hour; additional $25 per overnight
Key Accountabilities:
1. Assist in the supervision of all camp staff and volunteers by providing training, direction, guidance, feedback, correction and evaluation of staff.
2. Assist Camp Manager in pre-camp training, planning, preparation and site-specific training.
3. Oversee the financial management operations by monitoring the budget and completing the credit card reconciliation by the last day of the month.
4. Review and approve time entries for camp staff.
5. Coordinate with the Camp Manager to organize, order, store and inventory program supplies and equipment during and after summer camp season.
6. Maintain accurate rosters of resident camp participation, and health records. Maintain confidentiality and serve as key contact to parents.
7. Participate as a member of the camp staff team to deliver programs, special events and all other resident camp activities and functions.
8. Develop sound relationships with all girl participants, their parents and Council staff to ensure a positive camp experience.
9. Maintain a safe and clean environment. Work with property managers to identify and correct maintenance problems promptly and efficiently.
Qualifications:
· Be a member or be willing to become a member of the Girl Scouts, support the principles of Girl Scouting.
· Demonstrated experience and knowledge of resident camp management.
· Be aware of and able to effectively handle personnel problems, health and safety procedures and emergency situations.
· Ability to handle stress effectively and know when to seek guidance and support.
· Ability to work and communicate effectively with girls of all age levels, parents, volunteers, staff and diverse communities.
· Demonstrate leadership and organizational skills, initiative, creativity and flexibility, including the ability to evaluate and make changes as necessary to ensure a successful camp experience.
· Ability to work independently and exercise time management skills as well as good judgment.
· Willingness to work irregular hours.
· Ability to bend, lift and carry up to 40 pounds.
· Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under the Girl Scouts policy. Access to reliable transportation. Daily and/or occasional travel may be required.
