Job Title: Before High School (BHS) Tutor
Supervisor: BHS Site Lead / Program Director
Job Summary:
The BHS Tutor provides individualized or small group tutoring sessions to high school students, aiming to support their academic growth. Responsibilities include assisting with homework, preparing for tests, and employing diverse teaching strategies to engage students. Effective communication with parents and teachers is crucial to foster a collaborative learning environment.
Key Responsibilities:
- Conduct one-on-one or small group tutoring sessions in subjects like math, science, English, and history.
- Assess student progress and adapt teaching methods to meet individual learning needs.
- Utilize varied instructional techniques and resources to enhance student understanding and engagement.
- Support students with homework, test preparation, study skills, and setting academic goals.
- Create a positive and encouraging learning environment to boost student confidence and motivation.
- Collaborate with parents, teachers, and other professionals to ensure cohesive support for students.
- Keep accurate records of student attendance, progress, and achievements.
Qualifications:
- Good academic standing, typically with a GPA of 3.0 or higher.
- Recommendation from a teacher, counselor, or school administrator may be required.
- Strong communication skills for effective interaction with students, parents, and staff.
- Experience in educational or mentoring settings is preferred.
- Ability to adapt teaching methods to accommodate diverse learning styles and academic levels.
- Familiarity with classroom management techniques.
- Proficiency in Google Apps (Docs, Sheets, Drive) for daily tasks.
Hours and Benefits:
- Part-time position, Tuesday through Thursday.
- Tuesdays and Thursdays: 6:30 a.m. - 8:30 a.m.
- Wednesdays: 6:30 a.m. - 9:30 a.m.
- Paid on the 12th and 27th of each month.
- Eligible for paid sick leave per California law.
- 401K profit share plan with 3% company math (to qualify employee must be 21 and over and successfully complete 1 year of employment).
Essential Physical Requirements
Incorporated within one or more of the previously mentioned duties and responsibilities of this job description are the following essential physical requirements:
1 Seldom = Less than 25%
3 Often = 51-75%
2 Occasional = 25-50%
4 Very Frequent = 76% and above
1 - a. Ability to work at a desk, conference table or in meetings of various configurations.
4 - b. Ability to stand and circulate for extended periods of time.
4 - c. Ability to see for purposes of reading laws and codes, rules and policies and other printed materials and observing students.
4 - d. Ability to hear and understand speech at normal levels.
4 - e. Ability to communicate so others will be able to clearly understand normal conversation.
3 - f. Ability to bend and twist, kneel and stoop, run and crawl.
4 - g. Ability to reach in all directions.
1 - h. Ability to lift 25 pounds.
1 - i. Ability to carry 50 pounds
