Senior Attorney
Orange County (Hybrid/Remote Considered)
A prestigious Orange County law firm specializing in land-use and real estate litigation is seeking an experienced Senior Counsel I to join its team. Our firm is a recognized leader in the manufactured housing industry and is known statewide for its legal victories. This position offers an excellent opportunity to manage complex cases and play a critical role in high-stakes litigation and arbitration.
Position Overview:
As Senior Attorney, you will oversee a diverse caseload of complex business and real estate litigation matters, including arbitration proceedings. You will handle trials as first or second chair as warranted and collaborate with the firm’s principal on legal strategy. The ideal candidate will have significant arbitration experience and be confident in managing cases that require arbitration expertise.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage a variety of complex litigation cases related to business and land-use matters.
- Serve as the primary attorney in civil trials and arbitrations.
- Conduct legal research, analysis, and case strategy development.
- Draft and respond to discovery requests, including interrogatories, requests for production, and requests for admission.
- Conduct and defend depositions of percipient and expert witnesses.
- Draft and argue motions, including motions for dismissal and motions in limine.
- Engage in settlement negotiations and other dispute resolution methods when necessary.
- Provide legal counsel to clients on potential risks and litigation strategies.
- Manage key client relationships, communications, and case status updates.
- Develop and implement trial strategies while ensuring adherence to trial schedules.
- Oversee and mentor associate attorneys.
Qualifications:
- Minimum 8-15 years of experience in business and real estate litigation.
- Strong arbitration experience with a proven ability to handle arbitration proceedings confidently.
- First-chair trial experience with at least 5 trials that have gone to verdict.
- Juris Doctor (JD) from an accredited law school.
- Active California State Bar license with no disciplinary record.
- Demonstrated ability to bill 1,700 billable hours per year.
- Strong knowledge of civil procedure, evidence, and substantive law in business and real estate litigation.
- Experience representing clients in hearings, mediations, and arbitrations.
- Exceptional legal research, analytical, and problem-solving skills.
- Outstanding written and oral communication abilities.
- Ability to efficiently manage multiple cases, meet deadlines, and prioritize tasks.
- Strong organizational skills and attention to detail.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively within a team environment.
Preferred Experience:
- Experience working with municipalities.
- Background in complex litigation.
- Knowledge of construction defect litigation.
- Publications such as legal articles or published appellate cases.
Compensation & Benefits:
- Salary Range: $190K - $250K per year
